Poppy - They're All Around Us Tour

Post by NeonKnite »

Her latest album, Negative Spaces, is fantastic.

Tickets for this show are pretty affordable (if you avoid the TM Platinum bullshit) and the venues are intimate. Should be a killer fucking show.

wasn't really familiar with her until the thread that was posted here recently.

the new album didn't do much for me, but one of the previous releases, "I Disagree", is AWESOME. it's quirky. heavy. catchy.

I'm also fascinated with her whole "deal." went down a Poppy rabbit hole a coupla weeks ago.

this just came up on her YouTube channel:

https://youtu.be/uXUwX65ctkE?si=63Ej9AmOnLSC2Spe

wacky stuff.

she's either brilliant, insane, or part of the Illuminati.

I'm guessing a bit of each.

The new one is less quirky that that one, but I really think it's great. Definitely a well written, produced, played album. She des a lot of screaming on his one.

This is modern pop perfection:

I hadn't seen that video, I think she started out doing videos before music. I definitely have come to the conclusion that she is brilliant. Lots of amazing stuff the goes from pop to heavy and in between.

I got into Poppy about 5 years ago.... a lot of this stuff is not in my normal wheel house, but just so damn good.

She started out as pop and then evolved. She's done stuff heavier than a lot of bands talked about on here could ever dream of. But what's great about her is yea, she does heavy but she also does just some great fucking music and genres aren't that important. She'll do a heavy as fuck song and then the next one will be something that's unbelievably danceable.

This chick straight up stinks!!!

Songs? There are none!

Just like most of today's crap, this is tuneless garbage.

Looking for something catchy with a hook? Look somewhere else because you won't find it here.

I just now listened to her for the first time - a song called Concrete - and heard plenty of melody and harmony. Second song’s fairly catchy too. Not saying I’m going to become a big fan or anything, but I don’t think you know what you’re talking about.

I've been meaning to listen for ages - my manager is a fan and sent me the Knocked Loose video - but I'm only finally now spinning the Spotify 'This is'. About an hour in and enjoying every moment so far.

I took POOPY for a spin on Spotify

Interesting mix of pop and what I would call 'new' metal (as opposed to 'nu-metal'), you know screamo vocals with insane double kicks up the yin yang

She could sub in for a death metal band pretty easily I think if she didn't blow her voice out?

I didn't hate it, I made it through the latest Album and the first few on the next one without skipping or fast forwarding

Seems like a good concert if I was dating a teenager maybe? (I'm not BTW)

After that I switched to Melvins. FUCK YAA!!

There are quite a few bands I've heard in the last few years - whether current like Poppy or who I missed out on in the 2000s and early 2010s due to getting burned out on new music - that I thought "if I was a teenager now I'd be totally into that". For the most part it's difficult to have the same level of enthusiasm at 50-something, no matter how much I play and enjoy the music.

I dig her and that wasn't bad, but I've seen several recent clips of "Concrete" where she is singing over a track or lip synching parts of it.

Yea, the whispering intro part is on tape during Concrete. The backups are definitely on tape at least partially because you can hear her in the mix.

Also, during Bite Your Teeth the extended intro is on tape and she's not on stage when it starts and she comes out and talks over it so clearly not tryng to hide anything. .
