What a fantastic show this is!

A couple of takeaways from this, and maybe you guys could shed some light. Sad Teresa must’ve been around for awhile before it got put on Dog Eat Dog.

Remember the band, Jani was in Saints of the Underground? That was such an awesome CD. I didn’t realize that that song Jimmy was around so that must have been a Warrant song?

This must be one of the earliest shows from the classic lineup.

I've seen this show before. The quality seems better here than I remember it.

I'm curious. So many of these songs did NOT make it onto the records. Are these songs written by Jani? Or written by the other guys before he joined? That's my guess because they all seem very 80's Sunset Strip.

IIRC they were moving through new material pretty rapidly by then, and I'd be surprised if any of them are pre-Jani with one notable exception: Tease Machine was (co?) written by Adam Shore and is almost for sure the oldest song on that list.

Theresa had been around forever. They talked about it being around before DRFSR when DED was released.

Jimmy might’ve been a Plain Jane song. Can’t remember.

He’s still no John Lennon.

CC isn’t anywhere on DRFSR. He’s only on the title track on CP.

Mike is all over the first couple Def Leppard albums too. Big whoop. I wouldn’t doubt that he’s on Hysteria too given what an alcoholic Steve had become by that time. Pete was a much better player than Steve ever was.

I'm aware, hence why I said first two albums. The point was, it took those guys YEARS to be able to learn how to play those songs correctly, to the point where I kind of wonder how they got signed.

Steve did a full world tour after Hysteria was recorded and had no problems playing live, why do you think he couldn't deliver in the studio? The album was pasted together from multiple takes anyway so he had plenty of time to get it right.

And Pete? He could play but was strictly a NWOBHM guitarist who could play fast. Steve maybe wasn't as fast but after HND that's not what Leppard needed. And when they did, Phil could do the shredding.

Not sure about Jimmy, but Heaven was demo'd in his plain jane days IIRC.

Lots of that stuff, esp. with ballads.

It's not that they can't play guitar, it's that they have no clue how to come up with a lead guitar line. The solos in the video sound like they were composed by kids.

Listen to Heaven.... Good LORD. It doesn't even resolve. Simple can be good, but these leads and simple and terrible.

Jerry Dixon on the other hand is playing his ass off. Never noticed him on the albums, but he sounds like a solid player here.

He was a mess on that tour and didn’t make it to the next one. From the live shows that are available out there I wouldn’t say Steve’s playing was awesome by any stretch. It was passable but nothing jaw dropping and certainly not as good as what is on the records. Steve was cool. Probably the coolest thing about the band at the time. But he wasn’t the greatest.

You’re short-changing Pete a lot there. Pete was way more than that.

I used to really be in awe of Phil but watching him play next to Vivian on the Adrenalize tour made me realize how overrated he was and how underrated Vivian was. Phil has done his best to stifle Vivian live ever since imo. I saw that tour in an arena at the height of grunge. It was sold out and the band was on fire. Vivian was mind blowing, He got what he wanted with DL but he gave part of himself away for that security.

Phil isn’t the player Pete was. Neither was Steve for that matter.

Steve was a total mess that whole tour and did not make it to the next one. He was still the coolest thing about the band at the time. However, from the live recordings available I wouldn’t say his playing was awesome by then. He was much better prior to that album and tour cycle.

I think you’re short changing Pete. He was a great guitarist

Phil sucks. He’s a one trick pony who has hogged the spotlight because his ego can’t handle playing next to Vivian
