I had a buddy who was out on Hot in the Shade, and he said that even at that point it was a full-on wig show...like they would walk in and there were two styrofoam head with Gene and Paul's hair on them.

...and during the day they would hang out by the pool or whatevz, just two old bald jewish guys that nobody noticed.

Gene has not worn a wig out of make up in decades … the hair on top may be an art project of Toppiks and hairspray but it’s not a wig now a days.

The bandana thing started during the Flesh & Blood recordings. Then, if you remember, Bret actually shaved his head in that movie he did "Letter From Death Row". I'm going to guess that is when he was losing his hair for good and it's been a wig ever since.

Yeah, here's the tour before, where Gene's adjusting the wig as they walk up. Paul is at his baldest up top here, so makes sense he upgraded before the next tour.

Well, "Classic Nikki" had a noticeable bald spot in the Wild Side video. And his hair was very thin in the Don't Go Away Mad video.

Believe me, I know his "classic" era hair system and stood behind him during the GGG tour when he did have his normal hair for a while. You could see right to the scalp, which you could not before or since.

It is ingenious to wear wigs if you're not actually bald. People think you will only wear one if you're balding, so even if you're onstage with 6x the volume any human can follically produce, afterwards you have the plausible deniability of "Look at my hairline! I dont need a wig! It's just not hairsprayed up right now, is all!"

To be fairrrrrrr, Sixx started with good hair, but then wove all sorts of extra hair into it for that superhuman look. Gradually, that just became a proper tied-down weave, then eventually a wig.

He took it out for GGG, which is why his hair looks thin/normal in that era. Occasionally he had the weave also tho. He went back and forth in that time period.
