Well, I enjoyed listening to it, so there's that.

I’m noticing this a lot lately where these complications have the wrong release dates in them. Why is that?
I’m pretty sure this is from 20 years ago!

I was slightly amused by it.

Stevie did OK.

Marq singing Prayer was drunk karaoke at its finest.

Phil did a good Wanted.

Spike doing Livin in Sin is my favorite though.

As stated above, these are paint by numbers covers. With different arrangements they could’ve been better.

Exactly. Not saying it's good, bad or indifferent but yea, why? Kelly Hansen/YGLABN is the same thing, the same as the original.

Sounds good, but . . .

. . . these tributes really only work if they do one of two things.

1) Take the form of the song and do it in a different way or genre where it might work but is a completely different thing, or

2) Puts a very known voice in front so it's like the original tune in genre but almost becomes of the other canon. For example, if Graham Bonnet does one of these, song automatically becomes like Rainbow or MSG.

In this case, Stevie sounds pretty good, but this is basically the Bon Jovi version in style, vocal, phrasing, etc. At minimum, have some put a kick-ass solo in the song, possibly with a key change so it stands out as different.

Here's how to do it. Better than the whole "Encomium" album combined.

Kevin Gilbert - Kashmir (I think that's Toss Panos on drums)

I’m not a Bon Jovi fan and hadn’t heard the song before so I listened to the original and then yours.

Musically it’s pretty note for note, the mix sounds fuller with more low end, the solo section works. I like your delivery in the verses better than JBJ’s. It’s grittier. Normally when a vocalist tries to out-grit the original it’s try-hardy and cringe but you made it work here.

It’s decent. Wouldn’t go out of my way to hear it again due to its similarity to the original, but would dig it if I saw it done live.

I will address all the comments, and complaints.

1. This, along with like 20 others from this label and others, were all done 20-25+ years ago. I recall doing a bunch of these in the late 90's early 2000's, etc...

2. Most of the pay-days for me, were $ 500.00 to $1,000.00. And occasionally as much as $2,000.00. If you search the current $ value today, it's nearly double.

3. I was asked if I wanted to sing on these, and when I would agree, they would say, "Choose from these songs", and often, it was narrowed down to 2-3 or 4 choices, and as guys would pick/sing one, the list of available tracks would shrink.

4. 9/10 times, the entire track was already recorded, and when I showed up, it was me, an Engineer and I would simply sing the track. Most were done in an hour or two, tops.

5. Deadline Cleopatra was ACE as F#@k on it, with all related. In other words, they'd ask me to sing, I would agree, they would put me in touch with a studio/engineer, and I would book the time. If I sang on Thursday or Friday, by Monday I had a check in my P.O. Box. They were and are, to this day... absolutely professional, prompt and fair.

Not a bad afternoon, to go sing for an hour, and make my Car Payment and beyond with the pay I rec'd!

6. To anyone saying "Why didn't you change it?", as to not re-make it so close to the original. A few things, as noted above, the songs were 90% done by the time I was even asked. I didn't make any of those decisions, the label did. And the folks at Deadline did do this releasing Industrial, more modernized Metal versions of these tributes covering GNR, Crue, etc... And what happened? All the die-hard 80's fans didn't like it, and basically said; "Why did you change it, I don't like this kind of music", and so on.

It's like everything in life, you are damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

7. Why am I spending so much time answering all of those and typing out these long replies? I have no F;ing idea.

8. People ask, "Why even do this and who cares?" The labels, like the bands (Kiss, Crue, etc...) have released these because they sell, and fans like it, or want it. Do they sell a ton... perhaps not... but, I can tell you the Motley Crue "Red Hot" cover I did, has been issued and reissued multiple times, including remixes, versions on CD and now Vinyl too.

10. Here below, is a list of the Guest Appearances I did on various similar releases and it appears I did this in 2001!

I dig it.
Thought guitar was a bit loud and bass was under mixed.
You sound good on it.

I (we) were offered 1 of their deals years ago... and I didn't give it a second look.

It was basically $15k, for 15 songs... and they wanted me to do it with ALL original members. Of course I am sure I could have skated around a few of those requests, to not try to include all of the others, but... it was a pass without thinking twice!

I will gladly own, control, sell, distribute, and keep the income related for sales, publishing and anything else.

The bands signing those deals, are NOT able to do that, or close!

Hard to argue then. These covers are useless, but no reason at all not to do it and pocket some money.
