This would explain why Wolfgang has always said that you had to talk to Alex as far as all the stuff in the vaults goes.

Interesting. However, doing it the right way - taking partially finished tunes and working them into finished songs with Roth, Anthony, and Lukather filling out the gaps... isn't gonna happen.

I don't know what it's going to be like, but I am certain it will suck.

I will never say anything bad about Lukather. However, I will say you can't put him on a Van Halen album and have it be Van Halen. And I'd say the exact same thing about Satch.

I was actually gonna bring up Satch, you beat me to it. In that context, suuupppperrrr theoretically...because as an earlier post said, they won't do this right, who could/would finish Ed's parts in such a project? What would a list of 5-10 guys (if there are that many) look like who could possibly step in and do it any justice?

If I had my pick of who would fill Ed's shoes in a post-Ed VH, it would be Lukather. Top of the list. I don't need to hear an Ed clone - Steve hears the right notes to play.

But I guarantee you.... it will make no difference. This will still absolutely suck.

If you want a guy that can channel EVH playing in his style, tone etc., your two choices are Phil X and/or Pete Thorn.

If this is authentic Eddie vault recordings being arranged by some combo of Alex, Lukather, Wolf, MA, Roth, and maybe Sammy, all somehow shaping it together, I think it could be really cool.

(Laughing in advance about “it’ll never happen with Sammy, Alex hates him” - because no feuding rockers have ever patched things up. I’m just saying it’s not impossible).

I also think a lot of people including many on this board will insist that it sucks no matter how good it might turn out. Much like the last vault-esque project they did.

There are a million ways to screw this up and that’s always possible as well.

Agreed. Different Kind of Truth was awesome. Was it as good as the big 5? No, but it's still great and I'm thrilled it came out. If this comes out and 90% of it sucks, 10% is good, that's more than we had the day before it came out so another win. If it 100% sucks, don't listen and life stays the same. (talking to the masses, not you SterileEyes1)

I'd prefer X, as I find Pete Thorn's eyes distracting.

I do understand Alex and Steve are closer in age and will probably see eye-to-eye on the overall project, however, I think Wolfgang would put down the identical guitar style, tone, etc. His VH jam with Dave Grohl was hauntingly identical to EVH.

Jesus Fuck, people are fucking dense. Lukather is helping put the recordings together, he isn't playing guitar on them.

https://blabbermouth.net/news/steve-luk ... alen-album

On Saturday (March 15), Lukather took to his Instagram to clarify his possible involvement in a new VAN HALEN album, saying: "For the record: Ever since Alex Van Halen dropped some we were gonna work together I think there is a huge misunderstanding.

"I will NOT EVER play a guitar note on a VH song ever!.

"Al asked me to help him go thru a ton of unfinished recordings of Al and Ed writing and recording that never saw the light of day. As of now thats all I got.

"The fact that ANYONE would think for even a second that I would play anything on this is ridiculous. I have too much love and respect for that and ... I play nothing like Ed.. more as a co-producer or something. I am honored Al would ask me though.

"Lets see ..."

I personally never thought he was going to to be there to play on anything, just there to help curate.

That wasn't what was announced at first, which is why Steve had to make that post to clarify.

If anyone is actually going to actually play guitar on any of it, why not use the guy who has based his entire early playing style on EVH's playing and made a career out of it?
He had to alter his playing significantly in order to pull off his own father's music. VH would be a walk in the park now.

It wasn't implied to. Anybody who didn't have their chromosome count off understood what it meant.
