Disturbed is too hot for Jordan and the Bulls
So Disturbed's pyro damaged 6 of the Chicago Bulls championship banners.

Lebron James was very upset about this, as he has never had any of his championship banners ruined by a band. He said he will get his banners burned because he is the real GOAT, not Jordan, and he can copy anything Jordan has done. James could not be reached for further comment as he was too busy flopping after someone almost touched him.

Apparently Scotty Pippen attempted to claim credit for them but the police refuse to accept his admission.LovePowerFromTheMamaHead wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 8:16 pm So Disturbed's pyro damaged 6 of the Chicago Bulls championship banners.

Also present at the time was Craig Ehlo. He tried to stop the flames, but was still burned badly.

This was definitely an oops on the UC, but as someone that was at the show, I can understand why they didn't think it would be an issue. The banners in there are pretty high up, certainly much higher than Disturbed staging, so I could see thinking that it wouldn't be an issue.
Curious as to what the actual "damage" was, if it was just smoke or if perhaps something melted on them via the heated air.

Fine. So, first off, I screwed up by not buying parking early. I'm pretty used to being able to just buy parking day of for sporting events, so when I went to buy parking for this, I had to buy a pass on the secondary market, which meant I basically spent twice what it should have been. However, after the disaster that was driving downtown for the Metallica Soldier Field shows, we made sure to get down there in plenty of time, and thankfully there was almost no traffic, and we basically pulled directly into the lot just west of the UC. The whole getting there and getting in went super smooth.REO Cokewagon wrote: ↑Sat Mar 15, 2025 11:21 am

Once inside, I saw two merch booths, and both were overloaded with Disturbed gear, with a few Three Days Grace shirts on the side, and nothing at all that I could see for Sevendust. I didn't end up getting drinks, but I heard someone behind us complaining that they had spent $50 for two beers, which seems a bit high, but I'm sure it wasn't cheap, regardless. We were in the front row of the second level, right in the corner, so had a great view of everything, no having to deal with people standing in front, etc.
The show went pretty much like clockwork, right at 6:30 PM Sevendust came out to "Mamas Don't Let Your Kids Grow Up To Be Cowboys", and immediately it sounded like they were having sound issues. I guess they're pretty well known for using a track for Morgan's backing vocals, and I could be wrong, but it looked like he was wearing a mask so you couldn't tell he wasn't trying to sing, either that or it was some sort of weird makeup. Anyway, at the start, the track was WAY too loud, and Lajon was really struggling to be heard over the track. Seemed like they got it settled down after that, but as was, they only played six or seven songs, so it's not like they were out there very long. For the last song, you could see Lajon looking over at the side of the stage before they started, and sure enough, Draiman came out and sang Black with him, and they talked about how when Sevendust was shooting a video back in the day in Chicago, before Disturbed was signed, Draiman had apparently crowd surfed up to the stage, and when he got there, Lajon had apparently had him sing with him, to make it clear the bands go way back.
Set Changeover, and again, Three Days Grace comes out exactly when you would expect. Of the three bands, I'd say I like them the least, but I've got to be honest, they did well, and they stuck to the hits, with just their new single breaking things up. They had a nice light show going, and while they didn't get political, there were some times during the show when the lights were specifically red and white, to go along with them being Canadian. I wasn't sure how they were going to handle the dual lead singer thing, and while there were a few times it seemed awkward for a brief moment, they seemed to pull it off pretty well.
Three Days Grace goes off, and set changeover starts, but this time, they drop a curtain down in front, so you can't see what they're doing/the stage. Right before they go on stage, Huey Lewis and the News "Back in Time" plays, which is a nod to this being their 25th anniversary of The Sickness tour, as they're playing The Sickness in it's entirety as a first set, then having an intermission, and then playing an eight song greatest hits set. As they come out, Draiman is wheeled out Silence of the Lambs Style, and then they go into Voices. Between a lot of the tracks, Draiman would go through the curtain to the back, ala what Rob Halford was doing on the last tour. Not sure what was up with that, I wouldn't imagine he's old enough to need oxygen between songs, but maybe. One other thing, from a theatrical perspective, before the last song of the first set, they brought out an electric chair and "electrocuted" Draiman, complete with fake blood effects. Part of the intermission between the sets was clearly for him to change clothes and get cleaned up.
One thing I noticed with them playing the entire first album, and then playing other songs, is definitely how their sound has changed over the years. That first album has minimal guitar solos, if any, but then once they started playing the material off the other albums, Donegan came alive, and really was able to show off some chops.
Toward the end, Draiman brought a kid and his mom on stage, and then before going into The Light (I think, anyway), he went on a bit of a rant talking about his love of the city and complaining about how people of different ideologies were being pitted against each other by those in power, and pleading for people to come together. Was an...interesting...way of being political but not trying to go after any specific portion of their fanbase.
As expected, the Sound of Silence was a highlight of the show, with Donegan playing a flaming piano while they had additional musicians at the back, and Mike Wengren, the drummer, came out to accompany wearing a sleeveless Blackhawks sweater, something I've definitely never seen before. One other note, they had their original bassist play The Sickness set, and then John Moyer (current bassist) played the second set of the newer material, so that was definitely a cool thing for fans as well. And there were plenty of them there, the show appeared to be completely sold out, with fans all the way up to the rafters.
All in all, it was a good time, and my son enjoyed it, which was the whole point seeing as how it was a birthday present for him. If I had one possible complaint, and this is probably stupid to even mention, but the sound was a little too good, too professional. I'm going to blame that on it being at the UC, I think it's a fantastic venue for sporting events, but I think I'd prefer to see concerts at Allstate Arena, it just has a better vibe to it as far as concerts are concerned, even if the seats aren't as comfortable.

Not really a HeavyMetalZombie666 level review unless you tell us what you had to eat, as well as which of your friends you met up with at the show.

Yeah, I suppose I did leave out the part about trying to go to Jack in the Box after the show, and then realizing it was a ghost kitchen, so then went to Wendy's, which had apparently completely shutdown since the last time I was there, so had to slum it at McDonalds.Nate S Axel wrote: ↑Sat Mar 15, 2025 2:07 pm Not really a HeavyMetalZombie666 level review unless you tell us what you had to eat, as well as which of your friends you met up with at the show.

Re: Disturbed is too hot for Jordan and the Bulls
Sorry, wish I could ham it up there, but none that I saw. Honestly, going back to my comment about the UC being too nice for a rock show, probably the most eventful thing that happened was those banners getting damaged, and no one even noticed it at the time. It was a bunch of middle aged people (30-50) for the most part.
I guess down on the floor people were a bit more crazy, so maybe I would have seen something down there.
The only thing crowd related that happened around me, was a few rows back, this guy was shouting out some dumb thing between songs that was Taylor Swift related, don't remember exactly, something like "Let's go Three Days Grace Swifties!" Or something like that. Finally after the third time he did it, a woman that was with them shouted "SHUT THE FUCK UP", and he behaved the rest of the show.
