Nah, I think Lydon is perfectly fine with being done with the Pistols. Does he even want to bother with a PIL reunion (sans Keith Levene [RIP]. of course).

They came through Melbourne in 1996, it was really good fun, but Lydon was pretty much fucked then.
The support band, Skunk Anansi were fucking amazing.
I’d see them again.

I believe the guy is named Frank Carter. Have no idea his claim to fame, but the shows they have done sound good. He has the attitude and energy to make this something I will consider especially in a small club.

Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes.

I was in London Last week and didn’t realise they were playing, Derp. Clips look amazing. Nothing against Lydon, I like him but he’s done an Izzy and sounds bitter. More power to them.

Compared to those airport pics from a few years back where he looked like a Fat Bastard impersonator, yes.

Lydon's recent support of Trump is absurd. At first I thought he was doing it just to get a rise out of people, you know, like the old Johnny Rotten, but apparently he's deadly serious.

Dude, fuck off and die already. And I hope this tour is hugely successful proving you're not needed as much as you think you are.

This is on my bucket list of shows that I want to see with the only guy I want to see, not in the band.

It's like an SNL parody or something.

Glenn Mattock wrote most of the music and some of the lyrics - all of the lyrics for pretty vacant. He performs the songs on his own all the time. They should just be touring with him singing.

Doesn't sound like Lyndon but who gives a shit. It's punk rock, right? It would be 10000x more authentic than having some tatted up young kid cosplaying as Johnny Rotten.

Don't think the new guy is "cosplaying" at all, the complaint that he's far to aggressive/shouty is much easier to justify.

I saw them year and a half ago, good gig. No wonder Lydon prefers them musically.

He is kind of a big deal in parts of Europe with his band The Rattlesnakes. Good live band,

John should do his own tour playing Bollocks in full. This is like GNR playing without Axl.

Slash, Duff, Izzy and Steven without Axl? I would have paid good money to see that. It’s not any different than how Axl played without those guys for years.

John has some thoughts on the current "Sex Pistols":

John Lydon says he'll never return to "woke" Sex Pistols and is "shocked by how awful" their gigs are with Frank Carter

2 April 2025, 17:53 | Updated: 2 April 2025, 18:28

By Jenny Mensah

The former Sex Pistols frontman has been outspoken on his views about the band and their current touring line-up.

John Lydon has said he would never rejoin the Sex Pistols and has slammed their performances in their current line-up.

The punk icons have recently stormed back into the limelight, delivering live performances with original guitarist Steve Jones, bassist Glen Matlock and drummer Paul Cook joining forces with Frank Carter of Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes.

However, Lydon has spoken out about his former bandmates and commented on their return to the stage.

As reported by The Independent, when asked if he'd ever rejoin the band, the Anarchy In The UK rocker told PA: “Never, not after what I consider their dirty deeds, let them wallow in Walt Disney woke expectations. They’ve killed the content, or done their best to, and turned the whole thing into a rubbish, childishness, and that’s unacceptable.”

The PiL frontman added: “Sorry, I’m not going to give a helping hand to this any longer, as far as I am concerned, I am the Pistols, and they’re not.”

The punk pioneer was previously engaged in a high-profile court battle against Steve Jones and Paul Cook to stop the band's songs being used in in their 2022 Disney+ series Pistol, but he eventually lost the case.

However it's not the only axe Lydon has to grind with the Sex Pistols, calling their new-look touring line-up "karaoke" and "awful".

Speaking to Loudersound, he declared: "I’ve been shocked how awful it is. It just seems like they’ve rented a puppet and there it is. It is truly karaoke I think with really mediocre results.

“He doesn’t understand any of those lyrics. He couldn’t possibly, because if he did he wouldn’t be doing it. He’d feel ashamed about the imitating someone else and pretending that original songwriter and ‘Personality of the Year’ award person didn’t exist.”

When Nigel Carr remarked on how "chill" he was being about the reunion, the 69-year-old rocker replied: "Why would I not be?!"

"I had plenty of fear that it was going to be magnificent," he laughed. "I’m well rewarded by the results! I’d never go out and pretend to be somebody else!"

“They’re actually mocking the original content and they’re mellowing it down somewhat. It’s like an ominous omission for any band to be lacking the (original) frontman."

Referring to the legal dispute over the Danny Boyle-directed Pistols series, Lydon also revealed how it caused him strain while his late wife Nora Forster was losing her battle to Alzheimer's and that's why he'd "never ever" do the band any favours.

He added: "Listen, after using Walt Disney’s financial backing to mock me in court, while Nora was dying - and they knew this – that to me is an act of evil I can’t easily forgive. And why should I? I’ll do them no more favours ever again. Never ever."

I won't quote all of Lobo's post, but is any band of 60- and 70-somethings, decades past their musical prime, anything other than karaoke?

I would agree with that, in a way.

I'm not sure we can compare a band like Sex Pistols to let's say The Rolling Stones.

The Stones had a very long career, releasing albums and touring consistently...Sex Pistols did not.

Mick and Keith getting up on stage doing a tour just seems to be an extension of what they've always done, what they've always been.

But...a band that had one album and another that was haphazardly slapped together really needs their original singer. If not, they should really just call it something other than Sex Pistols and I think that's where John has an issue with the rest of the guys. They've gone and called it "Sex Pistols featuring Frank Carter".

Think he still has 1/4 ownership but can be outvoted by the other 3 guys, which is why he was upset at the Disney series on the band. Not sure if they can keep him away from his share of the loot though, even if he's not a participant.

He was right all along because it was terrible.

Also John has toured and written some great & a couple of influential albums with PIL too over the years, he hasn’t really stopped. The Stones just tend to more regurgitate the same stuff over and over, as much as I like them.
