Rough Cutt is BACK!!!
Well, sort of....
Now we've got "Rockin Daves ROUGH CUTT".
While everyone is focused on the Pearcy/DeMartini reunion, this happened over the weekend as well.
It's actually not as bad as the last Dave version with Chris Hagar. In the previous version they had the Black Roses video/single which the singer was pretty good. I actually liked that tune and it was pretty solid. Unfortunately, when the band played live it was kind of a train wreck and definitely had some "ROUGH" spots. Then the other original guys (with Shortino) came out with their full album and kind of knocked the momentum from the Dave/ Hagar version. After that, both versions of the band kind of went quietly off into the night.
Obviously Shortino is the OG and a great singer but for whatever reason he's not doing much these days. His prancing around with a cane schtick was honestly pretty cringe though. All the best to Duke Fame but....
This new guys' voice doesn't sound like Shortino or the second singer, but he has no problem hitting the ranges of either and might even have a better range than both. The band sounds pretty spot on.
So, what's the Metal Sludge verdict???

Same. It ain't rough cutt without Shortino. Though I do enjoy Quiet Riot '88 with Shortino.FreddyFender wrote: ↑Sun Apr 06, 2025 9:47 pm My verdict is that without Shortino i'm not even clicking the link.![]()

Biggest mistake was having Wants You! produced by Jack Douglas. Let Em' Talk would kill with heavier production. Only interested in Shortino Rough Cutt.

Re: Rough Cutt is BACK!!!
I am a huge Rough Cutt fan.
Many years ago, around 2002, our own DJ Will burned me a CD of their debut album, I think from a cassette tape. But he had tools to make it sound better. I still have that CD and listen to it occasionally.
I'd g see Rough Cutt, even without Paul Shortino, just because I love the songs and I would imagine whoever they have singing, would do them justice. At least, I hope they would.
