Bands that shouldn't have gotten bigger

The thread about why Buckcherry didn't get bigger had me thinking about bands over the last 25yrs or so that did blow up.
What band do you think got too big?? Whether its with hit songs or headlining arena's, etc.
I'll go with "Disturbed". I cannot believe they are headlining arena's right now. Only two songs i can think of are "down with the sickness" and that "The Sound of Silence" cover.. never cared for them much

Pantera. Saw them opening for Priest on the Painkiller tour and thought their songs sucked and they would go nowhere with their fake tough guy image.

Mindboggling to me that Steel Panther seems to attract a mainstream audience who don’t even seem to get that it’s a parody.
Plus it hasn’t even been funny since the first album.
I don't think anyone doesn't realize it's a parody.
You don't like them, which is completely fine, but to think people aren't in on the joke is delusional.

I can't believe how big the Foo Fighters are. I get it, the early songs are catchy & it's the drummer from Nirvana. What I don't get is the fact they are, 30 years later, still THE #1 rock band that exclusively headlines stadiums, I don't get it.

I say this as a fan....
I get why people shit on them.
The big complaint about them is that they don't really evolve much.
At this point, it's too late to do so.
Any attempt at a musical left turn now would be commercial disaster.
Foos have basically become one of those classic rock bands that can still be successful churning out a new record every couple years.
I'm with HoldenSSV....
Blink 182.... it answered the question "What if dick jokes became a punk band?". No wonder Tom Delonge upped the pretension with his side projects.
Godsmack's and Staind's enduring legacies somewhat bewilder me. Fortunately Aaron Lewis' politics (whether you agree or not) and country career is undoing that band slowly.
And everything Godsmack has done was done better by even the most basic of Alice In Chains deep cut.

Creed, Staind and Soul Asylum are some that come to mind. Mediocre and mostly unoriginal. Dislike all three. Add Counting Crows to the list.
I would have said the same about Nickelback, but those fuckers actually have staying power.
I like Blues Traveller and Spin Doctors, but never thought they deserved to be more than good bar/club bands. For a while, they were at least flirting with something bigger.

This also goes for AC/DC. Except it's over 40 years since their last great album BIB and they are a total scab band with a bassist and drummer who never played on an album, a guitarist who joined ten years ago and a singer who joined on their 8th album.

Too many to list. A much shorter conversation would be naming bands that actually deserve to have gotten bigger.
As a general rule, the more popular the band, the less remarkable it is. Think cafeteria food. It’s intentionally made bland and flavorless to offend the fewest people. Its purpose is to satisfy the lowest common denominator.
Same with mass consumption music. Awful.

I think Cheap Trick and The Cult both had exactly the levels of success they deserved.
Slightly off topic but I also think the combined success of Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and John Hiatt should have been added up, cut into thirds and redistributed, all while they each took turns kicking Johnny Cougar Mellencamp in the balls.

Evanescence just played to a sold out arena here . I was shocked they had 10 fans that remembered their one hit 20 + years ago. But to my surprise, they are somehow an arena act in 2025.

Bon Jovi. Without a couple of Desmond Child tunes they would be at Black'n Blue or at best Dokken's level and that’s where they should be.
