Have we talked about how much Slash has improved as a guitar player?

I was at Aftershock in 2023 and heard Slash's guitar solo while walking around chasing the ghost of laglamrocker, and at the time, genuinely thought it couldn't have been Slash, and then saw him on screen.

I went and found it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0Z5h0EQf04&t=6735s

That run at 1:54:12 or so is something I would NEVER have expect to hear from Slash, and the part about a minute later. Overall it's so CLEAN.

It sounds like Slash after taking lessons from John Sykes or something.

I remember hearing him say something along the lines of being really pushed technically when he had to learn the Chinese Democracy material. I think it's clear that a combo of that + being sober made a huge difference.

He slayed in '87, but he just gets better and better and pushes himself harder and harder. Each of his solo albums got better and better before GN'R reunion. People don't get how great Slash is b/c of his fame and top hat etc.... He has a distinct sound you know is him immediately but gets better and better. Perfect guitar player

At least LAglamrocker had the balls to show up for Rainbow Bash yesterday…Slash didn’t. Slash wasn’t at Vixen also last night.
Stood inline to get in Bash at 11 am- left Bash at 1am then strip club.
What did Slash do all day? Practice guitar

LAglamrocker life > than mine (Slash)
I only go to Aftershock when I get paid not for fun..I don’t even do GNR best Out ta Get Me

You were there that year, and I semi-jokingly told the girl I was with to keep an eye out for you and showed her a picture of the legend.

She came back from the bathroom and said "I thought I saw him over there" and I ran over and saw a differnet guy who looked like the love child of Jason Green and David Black from Seduce.

And then later on you posted a picture of you standing about 50 feet from where we were at the time. I was sad. True story.

Slash is going stay home practice his guitar and miss Aftershock 2025  another bad choice

No
Chaos AD set under a freeway (best stage ever)
Rob Zombie doing Thunderkiss 65
Best thrash band ever Testament
Heavens A Lie..live in the sun
Dying Fetus moshing

Better to stay home and practice practice practice guitar

I was at that Aftershock set. His playing definitely kicked up a notch after he got sober. These days it’s not just his solo spot like this here (amazing, 1:54:12), there have been times I’ve seen multiple shows on a leg and he improvs parts of certain solos, and you’ll see him go into almost sweep-picking, but it’s got his blues feel and just the perfect amount of slop.

And then that blues tour he did last summer didn’t sell well but it some of the best playing I’ve ever seen him do.

I sort of don’t know which impresses me more - how dedicated and solid he is now in his sobriety years, or how much he managed to pull off in his early/mid-20s while he was more drunk than any of us could imagine.
