I saw MM on Friday at Count's Vamp'd in Vegas and he was great. Got me thinking about Hanoi. Had Vince NOT killed Razzle, do you think HR would have broken big in the US? Listen to "Million Miles Away" off of "Two Steps to the Move", GREAT power ballad which were huge at the time. I think that may have put them up there if it was released as a single/video. Thats my opinion anyway.
Also, MM has kept in shape and still looks cool and still putting in the effort unlike Vince who looks, moves and certainly sings like shit. Also ironic is that Vamp'd was the location of Vince's club called Feelgood's. So, MM is playing at the former club of the guy who essentially was responsible for breaking up his band.

Monroe has his style but seems to be like aerobic teacher at gym- gets annoying ..some enjoy that style that’s fine

Even if Razzle had lived, Andy McCoy would've prevented them from having major success. Too much of a liability and fuckup and just incompatible with the business side of the industry. And McCoy was the heartbeat of that band, of course.

Nah, I really don't think so. It isn't like they were a new band when Razzle was killed. They had several albums, and Two Steps From the Move didn't do a whole lot. It never charted in the U.S. And Hanoi did continue for a while, but Sami quit because he wasn't getting along with Andy McCoy.

Razzle died right after it came out and the record company probably pulled promotion when it was obvious the band wasn't going to carry on.

I also have a bootleg video of Aerosmith Behind The Scenes in Dec 1984 and the roadies hire some strippers who are dancing to Two Steps. Something tells me they just might have blown up. Or might have done respectable domestic business and bigger worldwide sales. They could have been on the Theatre Of Pain tour.

When McCoy flamed out Monroe's solo career might have started from a stronger position.

He had a lot of love and respect in the industry too, collectively they sunk millions trying to break both Monroe and McCoy for years after.

Yes, but Two Steps was their official debut album in America (the previous albums were only available here via import) and CBS put a decent amount of money into getting that album made. Bob Ezrin didn’t come cheap as a producer, at that point, etc.

Two Steps was released in August of 1984, and the American tour in support of it was cancelled/postponed after Monroe broke his ankle in upstate NY in late-November or early-December. They then flew to Los Angeles, and we all know what happened there. But to say that the album “didn’t do a whole lot” isn’t entirely fair, since the rug was pulled out from under it just a few months after it was released.

Sami was planning on quitting for awhile before they lost Razzle, because he felt the whole rat race was killing him.

What would have happened or not happened subsequently, nobody knows. McCoy, while talented, certainly was an expert on the art of self-sabotage, but so were some of his friends in Guns N’ Roses, and they eventually did ok.

The band was falling apart at the time anyway. Do you really think a replacement drummer who didn't write songs was so important that the band couldn't continue? It’s like Judas Priest would have split up because Dave Holland died. Not very likely...

They did continue with a new rhythm section but the Poland tour they did in 85 showed a band imploding.

Hell no. For reasons others have mentioned and the songs weren't there. More people probably know about them because of Vince.

Power ballads were NOT huge in 84. A couple like Scorps & Dokken got decent MTV play but it wasnt till Home Sweet Home that ballads started being the thing

Yeah, if they lasted a few more years, they would’ve fit right in between Look What the Cat Dragged In and Appetite for Destruction.

They would’ve opened for either Poison or GNR. Probably GNR.

But as others have mentioned the band was breaking apart anyway.

MM’s Not Fakin It record should’ve done better. That was probably a bigger American push than Two Steps.

Michael seems like a happy guy. Proud of his place in the world. I caught the NYC show. It was awesome.

Also Sami started an affair with Andy's girlfriend Anna and later had a kid with her. She basically left Andy for Sami. That might have added to a tension within the band.

One of the biggest ”WHAT IFS” people here in Finland have is that ”could Hanoi Rocks have been BIG without that horrible incident?”.

Like already said here, they were already on the verge of splitting up because of several reasons. Sami was ready to walk out and Razzle himself also had other plans. The rest of them were in a bad shape.

For them to be bigger than they were would have required a totally different situation and that was not happening.
