Alice Cooper-The Nightmare Returns 1986

Post by p86 »

Any love for this live concert? It was released as a DVD and digitally but never on CD. The classics had a real metal kick to them I think, and show and crowd was great as was Alice. A real triumphant return for Cooper.

Played the hell out of this but glad he ditched the 20 min version of School's Out by the time I first saw him in 1990.

One of his best shows.

I knew a few songs of Alice but he was dead to the music world before this album/tour (Constrictor) so this album & esp seeing the tour (w/Tesla) was my intro to the Alice Cooper world

I saw this tour in Winnipeg in the spring of '87. One of my first concerts. I think a Canadian band called Sword opened.

I remember the opening act's singer begging the crowd to cheer so "Mr. Cooper could hear..." I thought that was lame and if every opening band did that...

It was his big comeback. Weird era as the last half dozen or so WB albums just vanished. Seems like you could still find WtmN and the AC Show but L&W - Dada disapeared like The ELder.

I saw it in Calgary . Sword played to the sound of crickets here too.

I picked up the DVD a while back. Goof on Kane all you want, he can play. Since the mid 80s comeback, he's always done a good job of surrounding himself with solid musicians.

The filming was excellent, made the theatrics look a lot more polished than they actually were. Great setlist, atmosphere and performances all round. Probably one of my fave concert movies and definitely a high point in the Coop's career.

I remember watching this on MTV on Halloween when I was 14 in between taking my little brothers trick or treating and my Dad taking me to the midnight showing of Psycho III and both having a major impact on my teenage brain. On the drive home from the movie, my Dad told me about seeing the original Psycho in the theater when he was a kid. I don't reminisce much about my childhood and I hate nostalgia, but I look back on that night sometimes as a high point. Funny enough, both The Nightmare Returns and Psycho 3 have both held up pretty well.

Didn't The Egyptian Warrior Vinnie Vincent open most of this tour or was it the previous? I will not be able to sleep until I find out this information in 2025.

It must have been this one because Alice didn't tour from February 1982 (when the Special Forces tour ended) and until October 1986. And in 1982 as we all know VV was in Kiss playing on the COTN album and tour.

There is actually an one one-off show in Fort Worth in October 1982 listed on setlist.fm, is that a mistake or do any Cooper diehards here know what that was about? Billy Bob's seems like a popular venue with lots of live albums recorded there, but mostly country artists.

If you think Alice went to Metal Land in 1986, wait 'til you check out this glossy show from the Trash-era.

Here's The Nightmare Returns show on YouTube. The crazy thing is he was only 38 at the time. I remember even then it felt like he was old guy! Who knew he'd basically look and sound the same and still be touring at 77.
