Gotta be one of their more under-appreciated songs, no? I was listening to IoYP lately and found myself going back to this song the most. Always liked it, that main riff is killer, but now I'm noticing stuff to an extent I never did before. The lead breaks, subtle and otherwise, in and around the chorus in the last part of the song are just addicting and catchy. Lots of cool shit happening in this song. Idk if that's the Beau Hill effect or just a really well-written song, or both. But this track is damn good, and never gets mentioned.

Great, under appreciated track for sure. Things I read about it suggests it was released as the third single from the album...to radio, I suppose. I have always wondered why this album did not get a third video. I actually wonder the same thing about Theatre of Pain.

I remember listening to a podcast Beau Hill was on (its on YouTube) and he was saying something about wanting to really push this as the third single and a video but Atlantic dragged their feet on it. Which sucks, it could've been a nice little hit for them. But its a great song nonetheless.

What you Give rocks, one of the few Ratt tunes written by Juan alone. Great solo. But it ain't a hit single kind of song.

Invasion just didn't have an obvious crossover single to get the label to keep putting money into singles/videos. I don't think Atlantic was really into the album - by the time '86 rolled around, it was on to the next.

This. I love “What You Give Is What You Get”. Man, all of Invasion… friggin’ rocks, though.

I liked that tune. Invasion is my favorite Ratt album. It wasn't on first listen, but it grew on me. And it holds up well,

Same for me. It’s the one I’ve listened to the most in the last 10 years. Lay It Down might be the greatest riff in the history of hair metal.

Robbin played the solo on that one.

One of Ratt’s better songs.

Invasion is still my favorite Ratt album, despite some filler in Side 2.

My guess is that A. The label was satisfied with the performance of the two singles and album - at the time it doubled the sales of SATD. B. Everyone knew that anything they released would be a hit but the band was in no shape to promote it or go back on the road.

That said I would have loved to get a single and video for Keep Your Eye on the Money and have it become one of the band's classics and a must-play song.

My pick for a third single would have been Tonight We Need a Lover... but so hard to guess if any other song on the album was worthy of being a single.

Great song!

But not a hit single type song and would have done very little in the charts

Smokin blew too, showing that any new Mötley song released as a single in 1985-87 would be a hit.

Not gonna argue. HSH was the gem.

I always thought "Never Use Love" should have been released too. Overall it's a great record.

“Never Use Love” is a great song, but I’ve never really considered it single material. Maybe “Closer to My Heart” would have worked since it’s somewhat ballad-ish.

The silly cover of Smokin' and its goofy video had potential to be their Leader of the Pack. There was definitely a backlash as that wasn't the band in the Looks That Kill video but they were still cooler than Twisted and had more momentum so it became a hit anyway.

They were a good video band so it played to their strengths. It's far from a great record but they set trends. 1st big band to go full glam, 1st monster ballad.

Exactly. Closer should have been a single.

Me too. That's long been one of my favorites. Great riff, which I think is Stephen's for a change.

Yes and they were great live until 1986 or even 87. That's a hill I am willing to die on. They weren't perfect but had energy and excitement.
On the Dr Feelgood tour they were a different band, and not only because they quit drugs. But maybe because they didn't live their 83-88 lifestyle anymore but had to act like they did.
