Decent chorus, but the guitar playing is fucking awful.

If you’re gonna do a tribute to Ed, maybe don’t have a guitar part that sounds like satire.

I'd like it a lot better if it didn't have all the attention whoring about how Eddie helped Sam write it in a dream associated with it. If it was presented as just a new Sammy song, I'd be fine with it, but the rest is kind of cringe.

The more Sammy talks about Eddie and his death, the more convinced I am that they didn't actually make up before he died, and this is all him compensating for that.

"Over in the corner gettin' high, high, high."

Lyrics that don't need to be there (even if a bit true).

Yeah he probably had one or two brief texts with Ed when Ed was whacked out on pain meds and wasn't "himself" at all.

Sammy has proven to be full of shit to the point of psychosis. I don't think he even knows how to tell the truth at this point. I've known several people like that and it gets worse with age.

This new tune is underwhelming. I remember when Satch hit in 87 with Surfing and it was like "fuck he's way past Eddie".

But he never was. Neither was Vai. Yeah they used more modes and all that but they never came within spitting distance of Eddie's tone, riffs, feel and rock and roll attitude. None of those 80s guys dug in on the rhythm like Ed with the exception of Nuno. Nuno understood the assignment.

I think Paul Gilbert could give em both a run for their money.

It’ll never happen, but if it’s not the EEAS band backing Dave in that festival gig, he’s got this year, my secret wish would be that Paul Gilbert would come out on guitar. I know it won’t happen. It’s just a bit of wishful thinking on my part.

Gilbert would have been a genius pick over Satch. Anyway,

I always have been a Sam nutswinger. But this new song pisses me off. For one—it sucks. Secondly, the lyrics. Is he ragging on Ed “what took you so long”

I would be less angry if the song was worthy,

Shut the fuck up, Sam.

I always thought he would be a great fit in Dave's band. His style is perfect.

The song is simply horseshit pandering. It's less about Ed and more about Hagar saying, "See I'm a good guy paying my respects."

PG is an enigma... he's undeniably talented, but he wasted his talent on playing with electric drills and being part of a band that made Winger sound like Metallica. His best playing is on cover songs. Amazingly skilled, gifted musician who was never able to turn it into anything worthwhile.

Exactly. Eddie was so whacked out on meds near the end, he probably didn't know who he was even texting.

And if true, he thought nothing of betraying Ed's trust via the press now after he died. If Ed had lived, Sam probably would've probably tried to hold him emotionally hostage with that info.

I like Sam. Never read his book or listen to interviews so don't care about shit talk.

As for this song, it isn't good. The comments on the lyric video rival KISSFAQ nutswinging. It is reminiscent of many of his post-VH solo tunes. The riff is something I might write (not being well-versed in song composition). Joe's solo - ugh.

Still writing new tunes (or refactoring old ones into new ones...who knows), but why put out below average shit.

The older Sammy gets, the more greedy and desperate he becomes. He hasn’t come to grips that he’s actually out of the bed and Eddie is gone.

Song sounds like something a studio musician would write and record (in a 4 hour session) for a Beer commercial..........

Just went and listened to it again, since the final video is out, and I don't hate it. Also, whoever said Satch's guitar playing was bad, clean your ears.

HOWEVER

Youtube suggested another Sammy song after playing it, "Loud" from Cosmic Univeral Fashion, and DAMN if Encore doesn't just sound like a rewrite of Loud.

Maybe I'm wrong, but definitely hear some similarities there.

It's decent IMO. Don't think you can expect much more than this from a bunch of guys in their 70's.

I just made it three minutes in and that’s pretty much how I feel about what I heard. Not bad for their age. To me it somehow comes off genuine and forced/contrived at the same time.

The video is odd. The Eddie guy they got was too tall or something. The whole thing felt off. But...I will admit the more times I hear this tune I kind of dig it. It's hella predictable but it kind of works for what it is.

Satch managed to ape some of EVH's guitar tones, and the chorus is OK, but the tune is little more than "meh".
