In a new interview with Meltdown of Detroit's WRIF radio station, former MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson, who runs several other businesses outside his various music projects, including heading up a record label, creating a line of coffee blends, producing horror and documentary films and writing books, was asked if he gets involved in so many things nowadays out of necessity or if he is doing it because he genuinely enjoys it. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I literally don't ever have to work another day in my life. I'm fine. Financially, I'm good. So I do this purely for fun and for joy. And it's great that my phone rings and people still wanna hang out with me [laughs] and we still wanna invite me over to their party."

Well, his best paydays came after he got sober. I don't doubt that he does.

Megadeth had a real nice run on Capital Records and were bonafide arena headliners at a couple different points. Just in my little slice of paradise, they played places like the Cincinnati Gardens, Huntington Civic Center, Columbus Veterans Memorial, Hara Arena and Rhodes Arena on the regular for pretty much all of the 90s. Realistically, the only US "thrash metal" band that fared better than them was Metallica. Some of those Megadeth songs are still on regular rotation on radio. They had albums going Gold and Platinum for a nice stretch of years. If he invested wisely, I'm sure he's ok.

I guess compared to the other guys in the trailer park he does.

I saw him in line getting his free ticket for Kiss in Palm Springs arena!..pretty sure he paid for parking at 50$ also$!!
He seemed like MegaKiss fan..probably dropped few hundred on merch!..everyone should be jealous and envious of him!

Maybe a broken record at this point, but it's so odd how people think it's easy to know random musician's financial situations, and base is solely on "how much they made back in the day".

How people managed whatever money they earned is the #1 determination of this and it's something we rarely have any way to know. Followed by inheritance/etc. and a zillion business deals/possibilities that may or may not have happened since then.

There are guys who made millions in 1985 and have been broke since 1986, and there are guys who took that 100k advance from that album that completely bombed in 1985 and invested it well and have been set for life since 1988.

One anecdote: I remember Randy O from Odin talking about getting a massive payday for Lost Boys, yet most of the people on here would be sure he's broke because "Odin was shit and Lost Boys bombed", etc.

That being said, Ellefson is definitely in that category of being set for life if he was remotely smart with his money.

Anyone can sell anything, but it doesn't mean it's making them rich. The Megadeth brand alone is worth many millions, but obviously David has little to no say in it at this point, but he was there for those early years records, and likely still collects a few good royalty payments from them, songwriting credits, etc...

There is no way he has as they call it "F#@k you Money"... can he live, pay bills, eat and survive, sure... but FU$... Nope!

if its us "8 ball" your talking about. It's "Eightball LLC. there is rapper named "8 ball". The band name was already licensed and secured when I showed up. I helped take it from a cover band to an original band. We are also independents. No labels but if Dave calls, we'll listen to the offer before making a decision..
