Life Loves a Tragedy Vs Back to the Rocking Horse
At risk of becoming the new poizond13
What do we think is the better song here? I’m choosing these two as I think they kind of flank Poison’s bigger hits but suggest slightly different bands, at different times. BTTRH with a foot firmly in ‘80s’ Poison, sounding better than many of their other singles and certainly album tracks. A song I could see Warrant (the superior songwriters) comfortably doing. On the other hand is LLAT, with its fuller sound, Rikki finally with some welcome decent drumming at the start and a clearly more mature sound - a foot firmly in the ‘90s’ Poison camp. LLAT a sign of things to come, BTTRH a sound of the bygone 80s.
Which is your favourite and why?

Great question.
Went with “Back to the Rocking Horse”
I loved this back in the day.
Should’ve been the single after Every Rose

Re: Life Loves a Tragedy Vs Back to the Rocking Horse
Love Rocking Horse. No idea why, just one of those songs that makes me happy when I hear it. Tragedy is ok, but nowhere near as good
And BTW, questions like this are why I will never stop coming to this site

LLAT may be my favorite Poison song ever.

Never heard either of these songs.
So I flipped a coin and voted for the 2nd choice!

Needs a "Poison is for f@gs!" option.

Agreed. A true shame the band has not revisited the song live.

Both pretty solid tunes, but I gotta go with "Life Loves a Tragedy" here.

LLAT is possibly Poison's best song and to my knowledge they've never played it live. Total wasted opportunity.

Life Loves A Tragedy is one of those Poison songs that makes me wonder who wrote it because it sounds way more sophisticated than anything Bret ended up writing on his own. I'm gonna guess it's a CC song.
It's a great song.

Lyrically, yes. But I think Bret was in the zone on this record and Native Tongue. Except for Unskinny Bop Bop Bop Bop of course.LitaStrauss wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 6:30 am Life Loves A Tragedy is one of those Poison songs that makes me wonder who wrote it because it sounds way more sophisticated than anything Bret ended up writing on his own. As for the music, it’s actually Journey Anyway You Want it and a little Stone Start Me Up. The guitar players out there will understand.
Probably my favorite Poison album track.
"You want Don Juan DeMarco, the world's greatest lover, to talk to you? What do you know of great love?"

Re: Life Loves a Tragedy Vs Back to the Rocking Horse
Life Loves A Tragedy is a fantastic tune.
It should have been a single - shame they will never play it live (did they ever?)
IMO, Rocking Horse was a better tune than ‘Your Mamma Don’t Dance’ (which surprisingly was a top10 hit for them).

Any poison song on the first 3 records is better than “mama don’t dance” other than poor boy bluewindycitycane wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 10:01 am Life Loves A Tragedy is a fantastic tune.

The lame “cover a 70s classic” trend was the worst

Your Mama Don't Dance was awful. I'll never understand why they'd release a cover song during the height of their popularity. Still insane that they continue to play it live.windycitycane wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 10:01 am Life Loves A Tragedy is a fantastic tune.
