Ghost - Skeleta
Its a decent album but is basically a poor man's Impera.
A good comparison would be Def Leppard Hysteria and Adrenalize.
You can't get much more cock rock than the lyrics to Missilia Amori

Re: Ghost - Skeleta
It's the best 80s rock album since 1989. Every song has a hook with huge sing along chorus. Excellent album that gets better with each listen .

Re: Ghost - Skeleta
I've only heard two songs so far.
"Lachryma" is pretty good, but then I heard "Satanized" on the radio yesterday. Not good.

You might find it grows on you, Satinised I mean.
Certainly did on me.
Most of his songs are like that to be honest.
I’m to old for the music to change my life, but I can see how they would have the effect Kiss did on me when I was a youngster.

Re: Ghost - Skeleta
“Satanized” sounded great from the first listen, IMO. “Lachryma” is okay, but “Peacefield” and “Missilia Amori” are both damn near perfect.

Re: Ghost - Skeleta
Ghost has some cool tunes, but literally everything about them is derivative. I guess Tobias has done a good job of distilling the elements that made so many '70s-'90s bands good into what he does. They would have been great musically (without the goofy satanic schtick) about 25-30 years ago, but I doubt it would have worked without all of the stuff that came after that time and before them not having happened yet. To me, they are more of an homage to many of the old bands than anything really "new".
Yes, everyone is inspired and borrows from stuff that came before them, but with Ghost you can just about point directly to every aspect of their songs and go "oh, that sounds just like this band" or "that part sound exactly like this song". They are like a "goth/metal/pop" version of THE DARKNESS.

Re: Ghost - Skeleta
I think that is the appeal to some of us older dudes. I couldn’t care less about the schtick, but I like the music (not so much the lyrics) because it’s a fresh take on an older sound. You have the minor key riffs of the old metal bands, some of that 80s glammy stuff a la Europe and that Scandinavian pop. It works. On this new album, even the lyrics on some tunes are less Satany. The kids can dig the costumes and junk. One thing I also like is their production, either live or recorded. It’s pristine and bombastic. It’s not over-produced. It just sounds great.
Re: Ghost - Skeleta
I’m a big fan, but I’m really disappointed with this album, Lachryma is really the only song that grabs me. Big step down from the last 2

Peace Field is pretty strong. Catchy. Listen to it a few more times.

Re: Ghost - Skeleta
As with every Ghost album/song, SKELETA gets better and better with multiple listens. I *think* I prefer it over IMPERA on the whole (at least at the moment). It feels like a more cohesive and consistent album.
I don't know if we're going to get an album as strong as MELIORA again. That was more of a band project than everything since. It's a pretty high bar, however with Tobias there's always amazing stuff you don't see coming (i.e. 7" Inches of Satanic Panic / Hunter's Moon). MELIORA marks the beginning of the Ghost "sound" that's been refined ever since.
While OPUS EPONYMOUS remains my absolute favorite Ghost album (a top ten all-time album for me), that was something completely different than what Ghost is now. I love it all.

That’s what I’ve been saying to friends that are fans. Mark Of The Evil One is epic! Glad someone else feels the same!
