A bunch of snobby rich people...
it's a laugh and a half seeing all the celebs showing up in their (phony) Derby clothes, smoking cigars and acting like they know what they're betting on!

I've had it on in the background, but idgaf about it. We are getting the same nonstop rain in Ohio, and it's fucking pissing me off. I hope the track is 3 feet of mud.

I'm an animal person who wishes this shit was shut down permanently. But as long as humans are self-absorbed asshats, it will continue.

I watched it with a group of people & the main topic of conversation was "I wonder, is it worth going?" The general consensus, no. If you want to sit anywhere other than the infield, it's way pricey, like thousands per seat. If you do end up in the infield, expect long lines for everything, expect to get sunburnt (not yesterday) & expect to be surrounded by drunkies.

The broadcasters kept calling it the pinnacle of athleticism (or something close). Aren't the horses the only athletes? The jockeys just sit there and be tiny.

A lot of the jockeys are bulemic. The owners are scummy, to say the least. I realize the horses WANT to race, it's literally bred into them. Doesn't mean I have to like it though. I hate the bullshit spectacle of the 'fans' at these big races. Stupid hats and whatnot. I like to bet on sports on the side, only stick and ball sports. That said, horse racing bettors are some of the biggest degens you will ever meet. I love sports, almost all of them, but horse racing I can do without.Hatchets Molly wrote: ↑Mon May 05, 2025 7:49 am The broadcasters kept calling it the pinnacle of athleticism (or something close). P.S. Greyhound racing is even worse.

I've gone to a few harness racing events but never bet. Someone invited me to join them in a box seat, went, killed an hour, left. I've always figured that animal racing (except maybe pigs at the county fair) involves poor treatment of the animals. Many rich fks are assholes, and when you see them at the Derby in their tinted glasses and wispy silver hair, they visually reek "asshole." I've never been a sports gambler and generally stick to baseball, basketball, and football as a spectator. I get second-hand embarrassment watching the tards in the infield at the Derby.Tommy wrote: ↑Mon May 05, 2025 9:10 amA lot of the jockeys are bulemic. The owners are scummy, to say the least.
