Re: DLR Live at M3 - Live here
Seemed fine to me. Couldn't tell if that's Al Estrada or not, but they actually sound like Van Halen, at least from that clip. Having backup singers cover the Michael Anthony parts was a good choice.
Dunno about playing Drop Dead Legs instead of DOA or Light Up the Sky, but I'm not going to complain about deeper cuts.
Hoping he's serious about the comeback talk and we get dates beyond just the announced show in California in September.

Drop Dead Legs was best. One of the best VH deep cuts, and he sings better there. Energy was pretty good. He's late on entries pretty often and feel like he's catching up. On other tunes, he sounded just fine for his age. Band sounded good. That's a show I'd see. Looked like he was enjoying himself. I just wish his timing was a bit better.

The best I can say is that I've heard him sound worse.
I don't know what's up with the 4 guys singing background. I'm not against the idea but they all look like they just won a contest. They're all dressed differently and doing their own thing when they sing. Still, for not doing a show in over 5 years, it wasn't the train wreck I was expecting. And at least he was wearing all black and wasn't dressed like a clown. Gotta take the wins where you can get them!

One of the most VH-worthy sounding bands he's had, at least from the clips I watched. Guitarist had a great sound, P-Bass was mean and loud.
Roth didn't sound any worse than he did in VH a decade ago, so there's that.

I only watched Panama so far... sounded ok. Let the backup guys do the heavy lifting. Seems about right. Band sounds more like Van Halen than the Sammy crew.

And he was using Alex Van Halen's drum riser from vh 2015 tour. Snare drum sounds the same too..
Re: DLR Live at M3 - Complete show
Well, it didn't suck, as I'm sure that we were all expecting (or hoping for) a train wreck. Def not a carry or the torch or go out on top performance, though. Kinda like, why, though?

Looked like some kinda bad vegas revue in a HS gym.
It also looked like a ton of fun. He sounds about about as good as you could expect . Good setlist, those 4 dudes were distracting at first, but just fit in after a while.
Thought he really struggled on the Kiss tour, and was glad he retired..but I'd 100% check him out now.

I guess he's just pretending that 1986-2006 never happened. I back him ignoring the Wolfdown atrocity.BernieTaupson wrote: ↑Sun May 04, 2025 12:57 amTotally. Fuck the hits everyone has heard a million times, do deep cuts and stuff like that he can actually sing. Little Dreamer would be another good one. Last played 07/08.
No excuse not to do at least four solo songs.

It wasn't as bad as I'd expected. Dave is like Gene Simmons when they took off the makeup (doesn't know who he is). Since he can't be judo, shirtless Dave looking like a frontman god, he behaves strangely. It's been like that for many years, but it never NOT looks weird.
EDIT: Maybe if we had the internet back in the early 80s, Dave would have always seemed strange. Since it was only magazines and soundbites, he just seemed like a rockstar.

"You Really Got Me" was pretty sad. Old man karaoke with background singers doing a lot of the heavy lifting.

Impressive. It's the best DLR performance in many years.
I really hope he does a full tour.

This whole show wasn’t terrible as well

No, early Dave was the real deal. By '84 was when he was getting so blitzed out of his mind that he'd just stare at the audience for full verses.Hatchets Molly wrote: ↑Sun May 04, 2025 5:55 am It wasn't as bad as I'd expected. Seems like a really fun show. There’s obviously a big demand for Dave as this show has dang near 48,000 views already. The band has the VH sound down pat. The addition of the 4 singers is a nice touch.

Not a big VH or DLR solo fan, but I thought that show/performance was pretty good. Only complaint was that he should at least do some of his solo hits (Yankee Rose, California Girls, etc.).

Re: DLR Live at M3 - Complete show
I was there, and am still at M3. The DLR show was super fun. There were times where he actually seemed to concentrate on singing and he didn’t sound bad. But then he’d fall back on that weird high pitched thing he does which is just awful. Not sure why he goes there. And of course he will do his little monologues that usually go nowhere. But overall it was WAY better than I expected. He said a couple of times that they’re hitting the road. I’d go see the show again. I expect he’ll throw in a couple of solo songs on tour. Festivals tend to get shorter sets, but I was very happy with what he played.

Didn't he officially retire a few years back? Guess not. Gotta say, he sure is in great shape esp. considering he'll be 71 this year.

Re: DLR Live at M3 - Complete show
I wouldn't be surprised if he does more songs if/when they tour. With M3 kinda sorta being a festival, not sure if he had the full timeslot he'd have for a solo date.
Regardless, I'm not sure he'd do any solo material, because with a VH exclusive setlist, this almost feels like a Fuck You to what Sam is doing with his "tribute" show.
Or maybe he's just 70 and you're not getting more than 75 minutes out of him these days.
