This is pretty fascinating to me, and for some of you, you may recall why I did this back in 2021.

In short, I got a few odd messages in my FB messenger folder, that one that you have to dig to find... when people are not always your friend, the messages go into that odd folder...

Anyway... I woke up on July 4th 2021, and had 2 really weird messages.

The first was something like; "I know you are going to think I am crazy, but... I think you are my Uncle..." etc..

The second was something like: "Hey, I used to date your Brother Gib, got Pregnant, and had his baby but gave it up for adoption..." etc...

Something told me to reply and I did... in short saying to both: "Hey, give me your phone number, or... please call me direct."

I spoke to the older woman, the Mother of the child who was adopted. She was in her early 60's.

I talked to her and immediately started asking some questions about my Brother, his friends, how she met him and more. And, she knew every detail and more.

My 2nd call was to the younger woman, who at the time was 42 years old. Of course she couldn't tell me much about her young life, until she was a teenager in the early 1990's. and once she turned 18 in 1996, she started asking more questions, digging, etc..

Again, ALL of this is in my story, and to say what happened is amazing, or some kind of weird miracle for our family is an understatement.

The ending was... my Brother at 18 got a 15 year old girl pregnant, and they were not really dating, as he just apparently messed around with her a few times.

My Brother was killed in October 1978, and the girl gave birth to his Daughter, in November 1978.

Because she was so young, the new baby's Mother's Parents decided to put her up for adoption and a family in Green Bay adopted her.

40+ years later, she was at the Dr. had some medical stuff, and the Dr. told her "We need to know your Parent's history, for these medical reasons"

She explained she was adopted, and started back-tracking with her Adopting Parents, tracked down the Mom, who was now in her 60's and so it started.

The girl who had the baby, at some point had heard that her old "flame" (my Brother) had a younger Brother (me), who as she called it; "Became a Famous Rock Star" lol

And Google helped, when she started searching my surname Hanseter, and articles about my Brother came up, about the song "So Many Seasons" which I had talked about over the years in numerous interviews.

She then realized that Gilbert Hanseter, is the older Brother of Steven Hanseter, who is pka Stevie Rachelle, started searching found my social media, and messaged me.

Crazy right?

That's not the half of it... if you haven't read this story yet... check it out, it's pretty crazy, and many have said it could be a Movie, or should be a Dateline story.

Anyway...

I did the DNA test with my Mom in 2021, and sure as sh!t, our highest matches came back to be THIS woman, along with other Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, etc...

We had NO CLUE she existed, until 42 years after my Brother's death.

With that, I am 66% German, 25% Polish/Ukrainian, 8% Romanian/Bulgarian, 1% Ashkenazi Jew and .05% Lithuanian!

I'm pretty sure I posted about this back when you originally posted this, but 23andme caused me to discover that I have a half-brother I never knew about. My mom had a child out of wedlock and put it up for adoption a couple of years before she met my dad.

His daughter signed up for 23andme and was somehow surprised when I showed up as her "half-uncle". I got a notification about it and was like "um what? I have a half-niece??" and then messaged her asking how we're related, haha.

She wrote back "wow, this is crazy, I have no idea. BTW my dad was adopted."

Like it never dawned on her that signing up for 23andme might show her a bunch of relatives from his biological parents, lmao.

Anyway, he's like 17 years older than me and looks way more like my mom than I do.

It happened just 6 weeks or so after my mom passed, and my dad already passed, so I'll never get to discuss it with either of them (or know if my father ever knew).

The *only* person alive who still remembered the situation/knew the truth was my Mom's sister. That was a fun phone call. If she wasn't alive at the time I would've gotten no answers.

Some people are like "NO WAY, I don't want to know, and I don't want anyone knowing my business!" etc...

I personally don't care, I have nothing to hide, and if I had a random kid out there, or a relative, I want to know. No shame here.

Of course there also those who think the Government is going to track them, dig into their world, life, private life, etc...

My thought is this... the Government do NOT give a Flying F#@k about you.... at all...

Unless, you are Murderer, a Rapist, a Drug Dealer, a Bank Robber, a Terrorist or a Pedo.

Everything else, they don't give 2-F#@ks about you!

Don’t buy a yarmulke just yet (though it wouldn’t hurt in your case). Jewish people tend to be obsessed with genealogy more than most other ethnic groups (early on, especially) which is why they are highly over-sampled on these types of sites. That’s why tons of people will see results saying they are .5% or 1% Jewish. It isn’t true. Do the math and figure out how the hell you can be %1 of any ethnic group. It’s ridiculous. Mine said the same like 8 years ago even though I do family genealogy research. The site I use recently “recalculated” my results and guess what? It’s pretty much exactly what it should be based on many traceable generations of both sides of my family. 50% northern Italian, 25% Scottish with some English, Irish and Dutch mixed in on that side from the maternal line exactly like I was told my entire life (and like all the records show). The results were pretty radically different than the first time they calculated it years ago because the comparative samples are huge now by comparison. Also, if you have any Sicilian/Southern Italian it can be a real mixed bag with that being a major trade hub with middle eastern, African and other mixes happening for generations. And yes, you have to figure in the possibility of infidelity along the way too.

Consider also, that many people who report themselves as “Jewish” are not ethnically from that region of the world at all and are from European and other regions who are Jewish via conversion often centuries ago. This also increase the likelihood that you may have a tiny genetic “match” no matter what region your ancestors came from. They are basically “matching” your genetics to a region by comparison. Jewish is both a religious and a genetic identity further complicating things when we are looking at ONLY genetic/regional information.

There have been many articles written on this subject. Some sites do break down Jewish heritage more specifically (European, etc), but not all. Those “1%” results are pretty much always outliers or false matches. That goes for some other groups as well due to trade routes and other historical interactions.

My half-brother was adopted into a family with two other (older) adopted siblings. Apparently both of them tried to find their families and had negative experiences so he decided not to do the same.

It was just funny that his daughter was semi-surprised that signing up for 23andme would result in this.

I'm not giving my DNA to any of those places. One of them is going bankrupt already.

I sent my DNA in to one of those sites and got back that I'm 60% Van Halen, 25% Metallica, 10% Motley Crue, 4% Warrant, and surprisingly .5% Cats In Boots and .5% Slik Toxik, but I'm going to assume those two are outliers or false matches as described above.

Got mine back and found out I have a half sister and I'm part Nigerian.

I did one of those tests last summer. I'm 45% England & northwestern Europe, 35% Scotland, and the rest is divided between Ireland, Cornwall, Wales, Finland, ...etc.

Which is interesting, because I'd been told that my siblings and I have Native American Ancestry through one of our dad's paternal grandparents.

Again, it depends on the existing genetics samples they are comparing against. I have no idea how common it is for Native Americans to test their DNA considering so many still live within tribal groups and are probably pretty connected to and knowledgeable of their ancestral lineage so the sampling for them might be really, really small. Because of this, people with maybe a great great grandparent or something like may not even show enough of a match to be included. Especially of their ancestor was maybe 1/4, 1/8, etc and not even full blooded.

The amount of people I grew up with in the North Jersey/NYC area who claimed to be Cherokee or whatever was comical.
