Boys... I really hate that new Sammy Hagar song

The one that started it all. Spreading gossip and insults since 1998.

Boys... I really hate that new Sammy Hagar song

I was kinda just being silly in that other thread about "Cancelled," just horsing off for a laugh.

No, this song is legit the worst song I've ever heard in my life and seriously OFFENSIVE that he's trying to market this piece of shit as an astral plane EVH co-write.

It's awful and desperate. For as good as he is, Satch just can't do EVH at all. I've seen bar band guitar players with a better feel for VH songs.

I’ve seen Sammy twice and I generally prefer the Van Hagar stuff but this dude is obnoxious and he needs to go away. Add Sammy to the list of dudes from that era who can’t write shit for 30 years. I stand by my conspiracy theory that none of these assholes wrote shit. This song is worse than AI. It might be worse than that last new Motley song Ive erased from memory.

I had an edible so excuse me if I sound spacey (I just talked about black metal to my girfriend for 20 minutes and she looked at me with such sadness)...

Am I hearing this song right? Are the lyrics about his dream where he wrote a song with Eddie Van Halen? What is GOING ON?

Okay, he says "We wrote THIS song," so it's not like "Tribute" by Tenacious D--this is good news.

Not ONE NOTE of guitar in this song sounds like Edward Van Halen. You gotta shitting me with this.

Hopefully he's telling Val some things he regrets not saying in this life and giving Wolfie some feedback on the new tune because if all he's doing in the afterlife is writing dogshit songs with Sammy Hagar...

This Field of Dreams-ass fantasy world. WTF.

Meanwhile, David Lee Roth won't say Ed's name AT ALL!

The guitar playing is godawful and sounds someone told a primitive version of AI to write them a VH guitar part. Roth and even Malloy have guys that absolutely nail the VH sound. It's not impossible to find that sound if that's what you're looking for.

Marching to Mars through Not 4 Sale is a solid four album run. So, I'd move that up to 2002.

Either way, it's been over twenty years.

I can't remember enough of the completely forgettable song to even give an opinion........

And, I never have understood Joe Satriani, zero feel to his playing.

I gobbled up instrumental gitbox rock like it was crack in the 80s, but LFI even the best of 'em punched themselves out after 2 or 3 albums. There's only so far you can go with it.

Ask someone to name an Eric Johnson song besides Cliffs of Dover.

The most likely answer?

"Who's Eric Johnson?"

Just for a laugh, Sam should replace Satch with Vic.

Well, as we saw with Bonham, apparently they're all replaceable...

Look, dudes, I'm as big of a Classy Mike Anthony guy as anyone but this song and video made me start seeing the brothers' side of things.

The video is straight-up TASTELESS. That Eddie ghost walking into the light. Unbelievably tacky and exploitive.

So yeah, they got a tour (or residency?) coming up and need to remind everyone about Van Halen. WHICH IS WHAT THE VH BROS HAD A PROBLEM WITH.

On one side, I think Ed and Al were protective of the brand because it's their family name. On the other side, the band was called Van Halen and Mike and Sam were in that band. It's their history too.

This is where I think the brothers win the decades-long debate. Mike and Sam are exploiting the name and more specifically, Eddie being dead. They have a tour to promote with nothing but a really bad song. They can't legally lie and say "This is a tune Ed and I worked on years ago" so they go with Sammy writing it with a ghost and Ed's not here to say anything about it.

Saw Sammy & Co Friday night and they opened with this song.

I tried to forget Chip's acerbic take on it, I mostly succeeded. :D

It's a fun rock song, people dug it.

Had a good time for sure, met some new friends and partied the night away.

Dear God Vegas is expensive these days! $52 for two breakfast sandwiches at Eataly the next day (bun, egg, cheese, bacon)! Bacon was off the charts good though.

Yeah one of those wanky guitarists with no charisma in his playing.

Marching To Mars was really solid. Ten 13 was for the most part as well. But to say Red Voodoo and especially that piece of shit Not 4 Sale are solid, is really stretching it.

Not 4 Sale was the start of the slide, for sure. However, it's also got Stand Up on it, which is why I included it.

By the time he got to Livin' it Up!, he'd completely lost it.

I gave the Sammy discography a dive yesterday, mostly a yawn. Peephole is really good though.

I came away thinking he's more of a businessman than a rocker. Dude definitely has FU money, even just counting Cabo Wabo Tequila.

So it seems he's more of a philanthropist at this point. That's cool and everything but he needs to turn up the ROCK dial about 10 notches before I tune back in.

He owes Eddie the world for giving him a second act. His solo career would've died a pretty quick death after VoA if they didn't have the same car mechanic.
