Somewhere at the mid 80's Saxon tried to get on the hair metal bandwagon. I guess their record company hired some people to make a new image for them. A little bit make up here and there, hair salons, glittering colorful clothes etc.

What do you think about their "pretty boy image"?
How about the groupies? Are there any Saxon stories in the Penis Chart?

Among the best of the best. You could tell Motley, Ratt, Jovi and Poison were acolytes of them

image was a joke and songs were terrible post-Crusader for the rest of the 1980s....

If they had stuck to their guns, they could have had a bigger following here because their early run of albums were really good, all the way through Power and the Glory and even some of Crusader.

What were they thinking? I understand Poison and Europe etc. young pretty boys doing this but the old school rockers...?!?!?

EDIT: I was looking at my phone, on a regular computer screen Krokus looks good too. Saxon looks even worse now!

They look like the house band at The Blue Oyster.

I always enjoy listening to all kinds of bands dissing the era, and distancing themselves from the 'hairband' aspect, the image, etc...

Even Bach was quick to throw everyone under the bus in that famous Much Music interview, saying stuff like "Poison and Cinderella, we obliterated those bands".

And a few years earlier his hair was bigger than anyone's, makeup galore, and wearing panties, bracelets and the rest.

People also commenting saying stuff like "Guns N' Roses were not a hairband"... haha, all Laughable.

Of course they were... that band were wearing purple eye-shadow, Police hats, etc.. Axl included!

Poison were as heavy as NKOTB, but what exactly on Skid's first album was heavier than the song Night Songs? I'd consider "The Pink Album" to be heavier than Skid's debut.

The bass player and the visor guy from Saxon were both total poontanglers!

Nah, that's Nigel the drummer. Steve Dawson (far left in the red hat) is the bassist.

Also, Nigel's giving off major Keni Richards (Autograph drummer) vibes in that photo. Pretty appropriate since they're both drummers.

Believe it or not, Saxon pulled decent amounts of tail in the 80s and 90s. Not only when they played arenas, even during their late 90s low point. I personally saw them taking some sluts on the bus after playing a bar on an island outside Sweden in 97 or 98.

They suffered from the Christopher Cross Syndrome.
Great talent, but not easy on the eyes; the early video age, where image was everything, was not good for them...
