Annual rate "native tongue"
I go back every year or two and always forget how good an album I think this was. I give it an 8/10. What about you?
Re: Annual rate "native tongue"
Love this album..Loved it then and love it now.
Went Gold, which kinda surprised me for 93. I did miss the 'fun' poison, and I think that turned a lot of fans off as well.

The first 3 Poison albums are "classics", however they are no longer albums that I can put on and listen to from start to finish, on the other hand "Native Tongue" (and Crack A Smile) is an album that I can enjoy as a whole. Only throwaway song for me is "Bastard Son of a Thousand Blues".

Love the album. Should be part of the Sludge Holy Trinity.
"You want Don Juan DeMarco, the world's greatest lover, to talk to you? What do you know of great love?"

I'm not sure I've ever listened to this all the way through. I'll put it on now and report back.

Re: Annual rate "native tongue"
Tried to keep an open mind but this is mostly not really my thing. So if you dig the album, just chalk this up to listener error.
It's me, not you, Poison.
Most of the songs sound the same to me--mid-tempo bluesy rock. At worst, it just sounds like bad Black Crowes.
That bass run in "Blind Faith" is cool. Did Bob take lessons or did Richie take over?
There's even some drumming on here where I'm like "Is that Mr. Rockett?" If it's not a session drummer, he really kicked it up a notch.
The other song that stood out was "Ain't That the Truth." I liked the groove in that one.
I think I'll give it 4.5/10. If it didn't have Bret's voice and the Poison logo, it'd just be a Cry of Love album. Not my thing.
However, when Dan of Thunder makes this thread next year, I might have a completely different response. It could finally connect. Can't stand in the same river twice, etc.

To further drive the point home that my tastes are suspect, see the Ween thread.Chip Z'Hoy wrote: ↑Thu May 15, 2025 9:46 am Tried to keep an open mind but this is mostly not really my thing. So if you dig the album, just chalk this up to listener error.

Re: Annual rate "native tongue"
As far as slow songs go, it's great - "7 Days Over You" and "Until You Suffer Some" are absolutely top shelf. "Stand" is corny but good. "Theater of the Soul" is a solid "Every Rose "rewrite.
The rest of the record SUCKS. The rockers are lame - sound nothing like Poison and aren't memorable. Production is great, but Kotzen's minor-key, angsty funk-rock doesn't fit with Poison AT ALL.
