A famous drummer is feared to have died in a private jet crash that killed at least two people hours after he shared a photo of himself at its controls.

Daniel Williams, formerly of hugely-popular Christian metalcore band The Devil Wears Prada, filmed himself boarding the Cessna 550 at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey late Wednesday night.

The drummer, 39, also shared pictures of him at the controls of the small aircraft, said that he was the 'co-pilot now'. It's unclear if he was joking.

An eerie final post showed him at the plane's controls with the caption: 'Here we gooooo'

The plane, with a tail number of N666DS, took off from Teterboro Airport in on Wednesday at 11.15pm ET, tracking data reveals.

It stopped for fuel in Wichita, Kansas before continuing on to California, where the Cessna ultimately crashed in a quiet military neighborhood in San Diego, close to its intended final destination of Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport.

Williams, 39, lived in San Diego, the intended destination of the jet. He left The Devil Wears Prada - a hugely popular Christian metalcore band in 2016 - and became a software engineer.

He shared a snap to his Instagram stories as he boarded the plane in the Garden State late Wednesday night.

Williams told his followers that he was flying with music agent and pilot Dave Shapiro, who, according to aircraft registration records, had just purchased the eight-seater plane in July last year.

On Wednesday, investigators confirmed both people on board the plane died. Eight people were injured, although investigators haven't said if they were on the ground.

Shapiro's friend Ryan Bruce, a music producer, paid tribute to the pair, telling Daily Mail: 'Dave changed mine and a lot of other people’s lives and the community he built and the network of bands he has worked with and supported will never forget him.

'Daniel left us a lot of music to remember him by and he was a super sweet guy.'

I've been seeing these updates all day on the News...

That crash scene is gnarly... and the video of jet fuel streaming down the street's gutters, starting countless cars on fire was wild!

I saw the IG post from the guy, sitting in the "co-pilot" seat... but I would like to think, that the pilot wasn't F'ing around...?

Also, to note... they say the Fog level was low and heavy this morning...

Something else was noted on a News story about it... the report said at that spot, the plane should have been at about 1,400 feet, but it was only at 500 feet.

Then they mentioned something about 'dunking under' the cloud cover... but Fog is basically ground level... I can't imagine he went that low on purpose!

But... hey... the Kobe helicopter crash was also due to Fog, and the pilot literally flew right into the side of a mountain.

Life is fragile... that could have been any famous band, athlete, etc... damn. RIP!

I have never been on a helicopter or a small plane.

I refuse to get on either of those deathtraps unless I'm on a sinking ship or in another near-death situation and it's only the method available of being rescued.

The list of names is long of people that had lots of money and could afford a first class commercial flight that died because they were in a helicopter or small plane crash.

Common sense is something you can't buy.

While I disagree that it's a "Five Star Funny Story" because you thought the band sucked, or didn't think he was famous...maybe think a bunch of young and seemingly successful people likely died a horrific terrifying crash scarring a neighborhood for years to come.

And now the drummer's dad likely won't get to bury his son, but bury something symbolic due to the extensive rate of speed and impact and subsequent fire.

Anyway, enough of my soapbox - an aviation expert weighs in on the rapid descent and faults the pilot in the crash. I'm sure a bunch of YouTube aviation experts will be providing models and simulations based on data very soon and that stuff is always interesting.

I worked with a guy years ago who was a MASSIVE fan of this band. Other than that I never really ever heard anything about them (not that I’ve followed “current” bands in a very long time). He also swung hard from the nuts of Sevendust so I’m thinking there was some tie-in. Like maybe they toured together and that’s how he discovered them?
