I vote Dirt

Dirt & Core blow all the others away on this list by a country mile, but I voted Core. The deep cuts on this record like Crackerman (which they often open shows with), Sin, Wicked Garden, Piece of Pie and Where the River Goes are some of the best and underappreciated early STP songs.

Dirt is tremendous though.

All are great, but I like Core the most.

"Dirt" - by a country mile. Not even remotely close.

The other really great record I remember from that year was Linsdey Buckingham's "Out of the Cradle" (his best album).

"Core" had 3-5 great songs, but I didn't think it was a great album. More like "pretty good."

"Angel Dust" was a step back from the prior Faith No More album (to my ears), and I didn't really love the previous one either.

"Rage" was a really interesting concept, but I detest De La Roca's (what I consider) naive take on race and politics. To my ears, their hybrid of heavy rock and hip-hop was an interesting idea, and it worked better (musically) on the next one, "Evil Empire."

A lot of other good albums that year: Nonsuch (XTC), Automatic for the People (REM), Check Your Head (Beastie Boys), The Chronic (Dr. Dre), The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion (Black Crowes), Psalm 69 (MInistry), Fully Completely (Tragically Hip), etc.

All great! Had to go with AIC though based on how many times I still listen to it.

Over the years I've come to kinda hate AiC Dirt. The tone of it is gross, like a morbid fascination with watching somebody die. The song craft is undeniably good but it just bums me out in a way that I have a hard time even explaining. Glorifying dope is one thing but glorifying dope as a deathwish sorta makes me want to puke. The fact that you can't write it off as detached-narrative, to me, taints the artistic merit of it. And I find the posthumous saint-ification of Layne Staley to be weird.

It's probably not just here, but classic rock stations are hung up on running the more familiar songs off of Dirt into the ground. And I never saw those songs as radio ditties that you cruise around on a sunny day listening to in the car.

I'll never say it's a bad album because it isn't. It just really rubs me the wrong way.
