Is Megadeth's Risk underrated as a Rock album?
Many Mega-Fans hate this album because they went too far trying to be radio friendly. What if it wasn't released under the Megadeth name? What do you think of the songs? Are they good Rock? Discuss...

"Breadline" was one of the best radio friendly tracks they ever wrote. I don't have a problem with CommercialDeth, Cryptic Writings was fine. The problem with Risk wasn't that it was too commercial, it was just that most of the album sucks.

It sucks...I like Breadline and Crush Em and that's it.
Risk is Megadeth's Cold Lake.

I like Time: The Beginning and Time: The End as well. I think both of those get ignored due to the album's reputation and not being singles.

Not really. It isn't a great album. But it's better than the hate it receives. There are a few good songs on there.

No. The songs are embarrassing and hearing Dave singing them is a joke. Half the songs were written with their manager, who was not a songwriter.
Ain't got no job, ain't got no smoke
Ain't got a car, his life's a joke
Living on the skids, thinks the world's just fine
Forgot what he did, dancin' on the breadline
No one there to bind him
Nothin' to remind him
Nowhere left to find him
Ooh, about to lose his lifeline
He's dancin' on the breadline
Easy there, Springsteen! Who the fuck would listen to this?

Those would be other two I dig. Maybe "Prince of Darkness." "Crush 'Em" was absolutely embarrassing. I think they thought they had themselves a "We Will Rock You" or "School's Out" with that one and I'd say it backfired. I remember people saying how god awful it was when it was airing on radio.Anthrax442 wrote: ↑Sat May 31, 2025 4:18 pm I like Time: The Beginning and Time: The End as well. I like it. Noit my fave but it's ok. Much better than anything they recorded afterwards (well, "TWNAH" maybe is as good too)

I think it's overrated as a terrible album, if that makes sense. Super Collider too. Neither are go-to Megadeth albums for anyone but I'll take either over phoned-in bullshit like The World Needs a Hero and Th1rt3en.
I'm not even that into the clickety-clack Guitar Hero albums like Endgame and Dystopia.
