Why are Kiss fans so serious?

There was a man in this group, Kiss, who was dressed like a cat.
I don't understand why the Army is so pissed off all the time. They have a line in a song that goes "Let's hit the highway doing 69." Why would you fight with someone over that? Unless it's about the logistics of performing mutual oral while driving.

I think they get so serious because they know that deep down, Kiss music is absolute dogshit. They are trying to convince themselves otherwise, but they know the truth.

Why would a person who truly believes a band's music is dogshit convince themselves otherwise? They wouldn't care about it. They also wouldn't be a fan, duh.
If they care what other people think about the band, they are an insecure weak-minded person.
The fact is that KISS fans don't think their music is dogshit, but some fans insist on trying to convince non-fans otherwise.
There are plenty of bands who's music I really do think is dogshit and I have never once felt the need to convince myself otherwise.

They grew up listening to them. I've found most hardcore Kiss fans started young. Influences from formative years can stick with people for life.

I ve noticed quite a few people with issues in their childhood and upbringing are drawn to Kiss. Maybe because of the superhero / larger than life aspects of the band, but that seems to happen in 80`s too. In all their shallowness Kiss means a lot to these people.

Because they (at least the ones on this board) became fans before their balls dropped and they still haven't properly grown up. CC Banana was the poster child.

Name a rock band who has a normal fan base? Zeppelin fans are notoriously stuck up, take themselves too seriously to the point of parody and are also delusional.
Van Halen’s fan base are practically a cult especially when it comes to Eddie and Dave.
Iron Maiden fans are almost like school children in their devotion. I’ve seen grown dudes cry at Maiden shows
Metallica fans use some serious mental gymnastics to try and validate all their shitty output since TBA. You need to look no further than this board for desperate justifications of Load, Reload and everything that came after. I will give the band they’ve put in a good effort with mixed results with DM thru 72. They were a different band and a much better band back in the 80s. They lost themselves after AJFA.
GNR and Axl fans, like Chip, are also way too serious and contort themselves into trying to legitimize Axl’s takeover of the band and laughable legacy. If Paul or Gene had done what Axl did with GNR, they would be brutalized on here. But Chip and others are like “Chin Dem is solid and legit” when it’s Axl’s version of Music From The Elder.

I considered myself a pretty big KISS fan, then I went on my first KISS Kruise and was like, "whoa." I'm a casual KISS fan compared to these people. But, whatever floats your boat... so to speak.
Swifties are bonkers, and so is the Beyhive. And those K-Pop fans are legit. So, it's a thing.

Kiss fans are serious because KIss is serious.
It is a ll a house of cards where if you let even a little of the artifice slip, then the whole thing comes down. If G&P were even *slightly* self-aware and jokey about the fact that they are grown men in clown makeup, then the next thing you know people would be like: "Heyyyy...wait. Some of these lyrics are dogshit, too. And what's with these songs????" then it is: "WHAT IF THEY AREN'T, in fact, THE HOTTEST BAND IN THE WORLD???"
I think one of the big reason they fired Ace & the Cat Guy is because they were less able to keep up the facade. Ace, in particular, seemed to think the whole thing was kind of goofy.
So yeah, like the band, Kiss fans have to be 100% down with the bullshit, or they might be forced to face the fact that their favorite band since childhood was just BTO in mime makeup, and that they are dupes.

I missed this reply earlier. The difference is that 70s kids got into KISS for the make-up, gimmicks and Saturday-morning-cartoon-level music. And now aged 50/60/70-something, they're still playing with KISS dolls and watching kiddie cartoons. Some Zep, GnR etc fans might be OTT but they were and are fans for and only for the music.
The same goes for adult Transformers and WWE fan-babies.

Literally zero KISS songs sounded like bubble gum Saturday morning cartoon music. Not even Unmasked. Are you dummies thinking of the Bay City Rollers or something? And don’t say C16 or some dumb shit which was Gene trying to write a Motown song.
Their music was every bit as solid and as heavy as just about any of the hard rock bands of their time who all stood around staring down at the mustaches (mustache-gaze). KISS just had SO MUCH more than the average band. Compared to the Dolls or some of that other shit, they were Led Fucking Zeppelin.
