What were your initial thoughts on Bad English?

John Waite having long hair (extensions?) looked like absolute tripe. Outside of the look! John is absolutely great. Thought the band was good obviously with Cain and Schon. My dad had a business partner in 89/90 that played the cassette in his new Chevy Silverado Z71. Remember hearing “Forget Me Not” a bunch then. I saw the band open for someone in 92-93 along with Damn Yankees. Can’t remember the headliner.
Your thoughts on Bad English.

Feelings of sexual excitement mixed with horrible shame, which lingers decades later.

I liked them at 12 when I was still listening to a lot of Pop. Can't go back to it now. No edge.

I liked all the musicians, I didn't really like their songs.

"Heaven Is A 4-Letter Word" should have been released earlier. Best song on the album.

First album is phenomenal.
Better than anything Journey has done since Frontiers, IMO.
And it’s the best album Waite ever did, IMO.

I thought they were pretty good for a corporate supergroup act. "When I See You Smile" is a solid ballad that deservedly reached the top of the Hot 100, and "Forget Me Not" is a great rock song as well.

Same. A bunch of great musicians spooging out a bunch of assembly-line power-ballad schlock. Total waste of firepower, like Damn Yankees and Mr. Big.

Probably most memorable for having one of the least memorable #1 singles in history.

Poser corporate crap.
I remember thinking John Waite’s wig was hilarious. It was so obvious, did anyone tell him?????

I remember thinking "Hold on, John Waite rejected Open Arms(minus lyrics) from Cain while they were in the Babys because it was 'too syrupy' but he was cool with When I See You Smile?"

They were ok, The Debut had a few good songs. But, Hardline's Double eclipse was way better than anything Bad English did.

Limp wristed pap, 90% of both albums sound like background muzak designed for the local Dentists waiting room ........
However, IMO, "Forget Me Not" is passable and I like "So This Is Eden" from the 2nd album:

I saw them do a headlining show at the Newport Music Hall in Columbus, and they killed it. The songs were much better live than on record (should I say CD at that time). I was supposed to see them open for Whitesnake on the Slip of the Tongue tour, but it was cancelled, go figure?

My initial thought was that they got part of their name right (the "Bad" part). I really wanted to like them. I loved the Baby's and Journey but this was just paint by numbers Diane Warren pop ballad crap. Utter crap. Not one redeeming rocker on either record.

"Forget Me Not" was kind of underwhelming. They were by far the biggest of the B name "supergroups" from the summer of 89, but I thought the others (Blue Murder, Badlands, and Mr. Big) had better first singles/albums.
Saw them opening for Whitesnake and they were better than I expected, but I wish they had played "Midnight Rendezvous" instead of "Head First."

Couldn't get into em. It was old guy rock for me at the time.
Having a ballad as big single really solidified I didnt care for em
Hadnt yet gotten into Journey like I am now & just saw it as the remnants of a broken up band

I agree it was hard to see Waite in that wig/ extension getup.
He looked cool in the Missing You video.
he looked like some fairytale witch with Bad English.

Love “Possession” but I don’t like the bigger hits as much (anymore).

I liked "Forget Me Not" and the first track, but rest of that first album just didn't work for me. Certainly wasn't a spot on Journey. Saw them live opening for Whitesnake, and it just didn't work very well. Got the 2nd album because I liked Schon's playing. While again it had a couple of interesting tracks, it wasn't more than 2 or 3. What made Journey work just didn't really work here.
