Is Joe Perry the worst interview subject ever?

Normally, I don't like it when people who type up interview transcriptions leave in conversational fillers, but whoever transcribed these Joe Perry quotes deserves a gold fucking star (you know):

I think my favorite quote is this one: "I’m not gonna keep the calendar empty just for that, you know? You never know."

Joe looked cool as fuck, but recently I wondered if that was the only reason that he and Steven were the faces of the band. While Steven is charisma personified, Joe might be the most boring dude ever. I tried reading his book and it was a boring as everything he says when he talks.

The biggest problem here is that he's still being interviewed.

Solution: let him look cool and don't ask his opinion on anything.

I dunno about that. Keith's mumbling and pirate persona carries him through. If he says "Hrmp, yknow, go down the pub for a pint and rampump th damkred shurmmmurmm kamash, y'know?.................hahahahahahah!", you can only come away with "That guy's just fuckin rock n roll"

Joe is the rock star and Brad is the musician.

I actually liked the book but it kinda filled a few holes in the narrative for me.

Not everybody survives years of drug use with their brains unaffected. Some people get wacky/nutty, some people just kinda become human turnips. I have several friends from my wild years who can barely even speak anymore.

Exactly. Keef's the OG. JP is the Temu.

Joe hasn’t been the best interview subject since forever. As great and talented as he is, he seems super introverted and uncomfortable at most times. Hence the fact, the guy has been quite addicted through the Aerosmith decades. Not to mention the guy is completely fried from 50 years the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.

He might not be the best interview subject, but he does a mildy decent job of acting if his parts in Revolution X and the Rock N' Roller Coaster pre-show are any indication.

Sure, but KR's book is beyond boring because he IS boring. There is just nothing behind that look and persona.

LFI both books aren't "written" so much as transcribed from the interview tapes. Keef's stories are better, so Keef wins.

I once asked NiteBob (Aerosmith’s sound guy for years) why Perry got so much more credit, when Whitford played his share of leads, and co-wrote quite a few good songs with the band, in their 70s era.

His answer: “Well, that’s all true, but Joe sold it.”

Joe was a more inspired rhythm player and riff writer than Bradley. It's just a fact. Brad himself has said he listens to Joe's rhythm playing intently when he's jamming around because that's where most of the Gems come from.

Walk This Way is ridiculous and not just "the riff". On the verse section the rhythm guitar is an hyperactive funk masterpiece. That was when the coke was still working well for Joe.

And forget about Back in the Saddle. Jesus that 6 string bass riff he wrote is possibly the greatest riff of all time. As good as Out On The Tiles or Black Dog. That was when the H was still working well for Joe.

Joe was more than a rock star, he was an artist.
