Good. Farrel is really annoying. And he's got an awful voice.

Re: Dave Navarro, Eric Avery, Stephen Perkins sues Perry Farrel
I meaannnn, he did cost those guys a fuckton of money.
More important to the lawsuit tho is that Perry HAS a HUGE amount of money for them to go after.
I was out at a party at his Venice house in the late nineties, which was this huge modern, freshly built place with all sorts of rich guy shit like a pool that ran the length of one side and a bar on the roof, and a mutual friend was telling me that the reason he could afford that shit was not because of Jane's (which did good but not rich-guy business) but because he kept ownership of Lollapalooza and made fucktons of money every time it went out.
At the time my friend said Perry was sitting on something like 70 million bucks. Multiply that by a quarter century and you get...one rich motherfucker with a big pot of money waiting to be sued.

Re: Dave Navarro, Eric Avery, Stephen Perkins sues Perry Farrel
Dave wants $10m for 1 punch, the other 2 want money for "emotional distress". This is a bunch of grown men, hard-touring ex-alkies, ex-junkies. WTF have they got '"emotional distress" about? "Oh noes, the nasty man with the silly hair was mean to me and I need therapy". Bunch of fucking pussies. Maybe they'll read this and sue me for emotional distress as well.
ETA I've just read Sleek's post above. Of course it's about the touring money but why not say so instead of this wussy, playground "waah! He hurt my feelings and I can't cope!" BS.

Fair enough. Cost them their living.
Re: Dave Navarro, Eric Avery, Stephen Perkins sues Perry Farrel
I have a feeling that this lawsuit is going to go nowhere. They're probably hoping it'll get settled before ever going to trial. How much dirt would get dished about the plaintiffs and their questionable pasts? They want $10 million to split three ways. They'd probably take 5 or 6 million just to go away but I don't think Farrell will give it to them without a fight.
Shit like this happens in bands all the time, it's just that instead of it happening in rehearsal, behind closed doors at a band meeting it happened during a show in front of an audience.
Your singer is a drunk, abusive pain in the ass? Creative differences? He wants his wife and a bunch of dancers onstage with the band? Broke up because of it? Find another singer, go play with someone else, start a new band.

Re: Dave Navarro, Eric Avery, Stephen Perkins sues Perry Farrel
I mean, he effectively ended their career as Jane's Addiction.
If you look at it as a business matter, one partner destroyed a company and its future earnings potential and the other 3 partners are suing.

Re: Dave Navarro, Eric Avery, Stephen Perkins sues Perry Farrel
Apparently, Farrell owns the Jane's Addiction name. It's pretty much his band. Are the other three guys partners, employees or independent contractors?
Could Farrell shitcan all three and hire new players and tour/record under the Jane's Addiction name? I don't think he would even if he could but it would be interesting to know the inner workings of a band and if something like that was possible in this situation.
They've always been a combustible band.
The dude is obviously in the wrong. However, the three guys decided to quit, said they could no longer work with Farrell in the state he was in.
I'm not sure a judge will see it their way unless there's something in the contracts the band members signed saying they're considered partners and what would have to occur for them to get paid regardless of whether the whole thing fell apart, or not.
I find this kind of stuff fascinating. How much they would have made for a tour, an album, etc. doesn't really get talked about publicly.

Re: Dave Navarro, Eric Avery, Stephen Perkins sues Perry Farrel
This smacks of bullshit (see what I did there?).
It's about deep pockets, regardless the merit of the lawsuit. I'm sorta surprised Avery (who always seemed to have real integrity) would go along with this nonsense.
It's ridiculous to claim Perry is responsible for the break-up a band who's entire history was of break-ups and getting not getting along.
Yeah, Perry should not have gone after Dave on-stage, but that did not come out of nowhere. There were obviously tensions about his wife, the dancers, the direction, Perry's drinking etc...
I.e., a band not getting along.
But guess what? The predicate for a going-concern band is getting along. Perry isn't required to "get along" with the other 3 so they can continue to make a living. Band members leave bands all the time and are not fucking liable for all the future earnings the other band members claim they should have had if the band member had stayed.
by the way, for the smacked out, drinking, maniac he is -- he was the only one who made a very intelligent and smart investment: Lollapalooza.

Here we go...Farrell files his own lawsuit agaisnt the other three members:

PERRY FARRELL Files Lawsuit Against JANE'S ADDICTION Members Just Hours After They Sued Him
According to Variety, Perry Farrell has filed a lawsuit against JANE'S ADDICTION bandmates Dave Navarro, Eric Avery and Stephen Perkins, just hours after they sued him.
Navarro, Avery and Perkins filed a lawsuit against Farrell Wednesday (July 16) over the singer's onstage altercation with Navarro last September that forced the cancelation of JANE'S ADDICTION's reunion tour. Their claims include intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence breach of fiduciary duty and breach of contract, while claims from Navarro include allegations of assault and battery over the incident.
In his complaint — which, according to Variety, is not a countersuit — Perry states: "That JANE'S ADDICTION's bandmates have sometimes been antagonistic towards each other has been well-documented. But Navarro, Avery and Perkins apparently decided that JANE'S ADDICTION's decades of success should be jettisoned in pursuit of a years-long bullying campaign against Farrell involving harassing him onstage during performances, including, among other tactics, trying to undermine him by playing their instruments at a high volume so that he could not hear himself sing without blasting his own in-ear monitors at an unsafe level. This harassment escalated on September 13, 2024 to physical violence by Navarro and Avery against Farrell onstage during the Boston show and the assault of both Perry and [Perry's wife] Etty Lau Farrell backstage by Navarro. These altercations precipitated the decision by Navarro, Avery and Perkins to both call off the rest of the band's North American tour. Without warning or consultation and using Perry Farrell, as a scapegoat, Navarro and the other band members took it upon themselves to abruptly cancel the remaining tour dates — violating contracts and disregarding all professional obligations — and apparently break up the band for good."
Regarding Navarro's alleged backstage assault, the complaint reads: "Navarro now falsely claims Farrell hit Navarro with a sucker punch. What actually happened was that it was Navarro who menacingly charged at and aggressively assaulted both Farrell and his wife Etty Lau backstage, shouting, 'What the fuck was that, you motherfucker?!' Farrell took a defensive stance and shouted, 'Get the fuck out of here!' to which Navarro replied, 'I am never working with you again!'"
The complaint continues: "[Farrell] was not even consulted about cancelling the tour and would not have agreed to do so due to the financial and reputational consequences, as well as exposure to third-party legal liability created by their allowing Wilton Hilton, Inc., the band's touring company, breach its touring commitments."
In a statement shared with Variety, Farrell said of the trio's lawsuit: "As a founding member and creative force behind JANE'S ADDICTION, Perry Farrell has always prioritized the band's legacy and its supporters, which is why the events of September 13th, 2024 in Boston and the resulting fallout was so devastating. Without warning or consultation and using Perry as a scapegoat, Dave Navarro and the other band members took it upon themselves to abruptly cancel the remaining tour dates — violating contracts and disregarding all professional obligations. Perry was blindsided by not being allowed to vote and be heard, leaving him unable to plead his case to continue the tour for their fans. If that was not harmful enough, Dave Navarro then intentionally and publicly blamed Perry for the canceled tour dates effectively destroying Perry's reputation and causing him irreparable harm. Despite this continued bullying perpetuated by Navarro, Perry's dedication to JANE'S ADDICTION and the preservation of its positive impact on the music industry remains unshaken. He is actively exploring ways to address the situation and ensure accountability."

well, the suit/ countersuit thing is becoming more clear.
apparently, they all face significant liability for the cancelled tour, and are looking to have the other cover the costs.
Problem for Navarro and Co. is it looks like THEY were indeed the ones who unilaterally cancelled the tour. . . .

Re: Dave Navarro, Eric Avery, Stephen Perkins sues Perry Farrel
90% of this isn't even coming from Farrel - it's his wife. The countersuit was probably filed while Perry was passed out drunk somewhere.
This all blew up because the band wouldn't let his wife onstage. And then the final straw was when they wouldn't let him play videos of her dancing on the screens during the performance.
Same thing that killed Satellite Party before it got going - wife wants to run the show. Straight out of Spinal Tap.
