Bleecker Street has set a September 12 theatrical release date for "Spinal Tap II: The End Continues", which reunites director Rob Reiner with Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer as they reprise their iconic roles as the legendary heavy metal band SPINAL TAP in this long-awaited sequel. The indie studio, founded by Andrew Karpen in 2014, also landed the rights for the original "This Is Spinal Tap", which has been newly restored and was re-released in theaters this summer. That new version has also hit digital and streaming platforms, making it the first time the film has been available digitally in years.

Reiner has returned to direct and write, and original stars/writers Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer are reprising their roles as Nigel Tufnel, David St Hubbins and Derek Smalls, respectively. Reiner also returns as the documentarian Martin "Marty" DiBergi.

In the sequel, the fictional heavy metal group reunites after a 15-year hiatus for one final concert in New Orleans that SPINAL TAP was booked for after Stormy Daniels canceled. Music legends Elton John and Paul McCartney make cameos.

The Stormy Daniels joke is funny but it's going to date. Likewise I've no idea who the guy is that they're interviewing for the drummer position. (I'm sure I'll know his name, i just dont recognise him). The Irish band skit looks good and it'd be better if they stuck to things like that than trying to be 'up to date' when the original was timeless.

Hopefully we didn't just see the only highlights of the film. The Irish pub scene was great, though.

I'm a little concerned about it. First, sequels to comedies more often than not fall flat. Second, all these cameos make it feel like that HBO show Entourage. Now the first one had cameos too but they played characters, not themselves which are usually stiff and cringy. Also, as stated above, you want to stay away from dated jokes. I'll still see it but I'll temper my expectations.

I just don't see there being an appetite for it 40 years later, and I say this as a big fan. Break Like The Wind would've been an appropriate time to do it, or around the time that the trio was doing indie comedy films in the 90s and early aughts.

This ^ , you can't play on "nostalgia" when your target audience is either in a nursing home or dead.

That looks terrible. Almost passable as a TV special like the one they did for Break Like the Wind (I still remember Nigel and the folding travel wine glasses!)

The sequel has written itself. Just look at every 80's band out there! They could've done a movie about Warrant or LA Guns and just called it Spinal Tap 2!
Band goes from playing arenas to clubs or bars for 50 people (if that!).
Singer gets fat and gets a mohawk.
Two versions of the band.
Re-recorded Greatest Hits packaged discreetly so you couldn't tell it was re-recorded. T
hen record stores close and no one even has a CD player to listen to the new CD!
Rocklahoma and M3 festivals where thousands of fans show up out of nowhere.
Nostalgia reunion tours.
The list goes on and on...

They should've consulted with us first. We have the material for a good movie!

People will have to Google Stormi Daniel’s to know who she is, it was a political hit that MISSED big time … even I had to think for a minute who she is … but I’m a big fan of reunions so I’ll give it two thumbs up.

Remember in the 80’s and 90’s we had Return To Mayberry, Rescue from Gilligan’s Island, Dukes Of Hazzard reunions, Return To Green Acres, Honeymooners reunions, Bionic Man reunions, etc. …. Good times.
