Ilan Rubin replaces Josh Freese, who was let go from the band back in May. But there’s a twist.

The Foo Fighters have found their next drummer, as the rock band has tapped Ilan Rubin for the gig, sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter.

Rubin is best known for his work with Nine Inch Nails, where he’s served as the band’s touring drummer since 2009 and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with the band in 2020, becoming the youngest-ever inductee at the time at 32 years old. He’s also the drummer for Angels & Airwaves and has worked with Danny Elfman as well.

The move comes just over two months after Foo Fighters parted ways with drummer Josh Freese, who joined the group in 2023 as successor to the late Taylor Hawkins, who died in 2022.

Reminds me of when Metallica hired Trujillo from Ozzy's band, and Ozzy replaced him with Newsted

There was also the time when Sebastian Bach hired Paul Crook from Anthrax, who then reached out to Snake Sabo to fill in

So he's a replacement drummer in NIN, joined them in 2008 well after the glory years, and he makes the HoF at age 32? Lol, right up there with Charlie and Ringo.

I was curious, so I had to check out his 9 Inch Nails discography. It looks like he played on a grand sum total of one studio album as far as I can tell, and that was only two studio songs where he's only credited for "toms".

Pretty hilarious what it takes to get into, or be kept out of the R&RHoF.

Remember when Hawkins died and people here thought that Foo Fighters wouldn't continue.

And then you had some people comparing Grohl and Hawkins to Jagger and Richards.

Shame that Foo Fighters didn't go away with Hawkins death as we will continue to be subjected to their bland music.
