Ozzy Gatekeeping

Been looking around this "social media" and I see these posts like "All of a sudden everyone's an Ozzy Osbourne fan" or "I challenge you to name 5 Ozzy songs," that whole routine.

If this is your attitude, you are a poser.

(A SECRET POSER.)

This is like gatekeeping milk. "How long you been drinking milk? Me? 50 years. So yeah, not exactly a newbie."

I loved seeing Ozzy's name all over the place, don't care who knows the tunes, don't care if they even know he made music.

Everyone's dying! We need to keep the music alive. I want to see a kid with an SG in 2070 playing "Paranoid." (I'll be 91.)

Are you the kind of guy that likes to wear band shirts because the graphics look cool but don't know any of the songs?

Same thing with Metallica and Stranger Things. When was that? 5 years ago?

Sorry a kid got really into "Master of Puppets" because it was on a show. They really should've heard it right: Off a seventh generation cassette they got from a weed dealer.

It's Metallica. They sold a gazillion records. Once the shirts are in Wal-Mart next to the "Zero to Bitch in 2.4 Seconds, Just Add Wine" shirts, it's over.

Saying you're a real fan of Ozzy Osbourne is like saying you're a real fan of sunshine.

I'm not much of a fan of solo Ozzy, but I live in Vancouver, so I must love the rain.

It's going to be insane when Mick Jagger dies. People trying to get cred with Bridges to Babylon tour t-shirts--my head's going to explode.

All this to say, this isn't Fugazi here, this is the most popular rock music ever made. And everybody has all of their albums, in their pockets.

Looks like Ozzy and Gene Simmons were best friends.

My first Ozzfest was 1997 when I was 13. I think I went to eight of them total from then through 2006, saw OG Sabbath a couple times during that era and Ozzy solo a time or two more also.

I get that Chip is mocking the gatekeeping, I’m just co-signing. Anyone who loves Ozzy can love Ozzy and it’s not up to me or anyone else. He was the shit. People like me are just lucky. Who fucking cares.

There's a name I haven't heard in a long ass time. I saw a show on that tour here in Chicago. Goo Goo Dolls opened. Great show. Didn't get a t-shirt though.

That's such a lame thing to do to stroke your own ego. It's like people who look down on fans who discovered a band later than they did.

I think for me personally , it only effects me with hearing stuff too often. I do get tired of Crazy Train and Mama being played over and over. They are great songs , that are played to death . Ozzy and Sabbath have more than enough obscure work to “gatekeeper” some to yourself. I think Diary Of A Madman will always be the best kept secret in metal. There is also no worries that the masses will suddenly start blasting Vol.4 . They can have the Best of… the “rest of…” is plenty full enough to keep for yourself.
