Do you want spatial audio remixes? GNR didn't

Asked what the challenges were working on remixes of GUNS N' ROSES' 1991 multi-platinum releases "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II", Wilson said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Well, the challenges were the band didn't like what I was doing. That came through the record company, and I did it all, and then the band basically vetoed it all. So the only thing that ever came out was my remix of 'November Rain', with a real orchestra added. And that was a shame, 'cause that's a lot of music on those records — I think I worked on about 40 songs, including outtakes, B-sides and God knows what else. And then the band basically turned around and decided they didn't like it. They didn't like [Dolby] Atmos [a surround sound technology that creates a more immersive, three-dimensional audio experience], they didn't like the idea of their music being in spatial audio. So that project is kind of just sitting on my hard drive, unreleased and unheard. It's such a shame.

Cry me a fucking river. It's their album, if GNR doesn't like what you've done with it, then that's their right.
You didn't write the music, you didn't perform the music, you DON'T get a say in how it's presented.

That is your takeaway from the article?

Yes, it sounds like he's whining that he did a bunch of work to get rejected.
Was there some other thing that I'm missing?

If the band didn't like the remixes or agree to the album being remixed in the first place then yeah - I'm glad they were able to veto it.

Really mixed (ha!) feelings on Dolby Atmos/spatial audio. Most of the time it kinda sounds fucked up to me. Once in a while, it'll be kinda cool and interesting but in the way that a lot of remixed albums are, just certain things popping out I never heard before.
But for a while, I had it completely turned off. There was a Jason Isbell song that sounded like a hillbilly's ghost singing over a vacuum cleaner.

That's exactly it. If' it's like, say, Pink Floyd, then okay, maybe it would work and that could be interesting.
But who the fuck wants an Atmos version of Garden of Eden or Get in the Ring? It's a rock album, not an action movie.

To me it sounds like a guy who was hired and paid to do a creative endeavor and was disappointed that it wasn't going to get released. At no point did he sound bitter or pissed off nor did he allude to how he wrote or performed the music or demanded how it was to be presented.
So, in my opinion you missed that by projecting things on to what was actually said.

Maybe I was a bit harsh, but later on, it definitely sounded like sour grapes when his friends were asking him to play what didn't get released, and he was all like, "Eh, nah, I don't like that kind of music anyway."
If you were really that proud of what you did, wouldn't you want to show it off if your friends asked?

That's the one that would really benefit. You could really get inside Bill's psychosis. Feel it.

I read the article and unless they didn’t pay him or something it felt to me like he was unprofessional and talking out of school. It’s not like they do interviews but wouldn’t blame the band for thinking “Great, now we get to answer for this.”
In that camp, even if you only work for them for a day, I’m pretty sure “You don’t talk about Fight Club” is the first thing they tell you.

What he does is kinda interesting. It’s clear he mostly picks albums from his prog rock fan hood, like Kkng Crimson or Yes.
Would still love to hear what he could do to And Justice For All or Born Again.

They did experiment with
Illusion rough mixes with QSound

but never used them.
