I think Ozzy was a lot sharper than people gave him credit for, and a lot more involved in the A-hole moves than people think.

There were really throwing each other under the bus with the Blizzard/Diary bass/drums fiasco for a while there. It would clearly BOTH of their decisions.

Ozzy really WAS out of it for pretty much two decades. If he was so fucked up during interviews and onstage imagine how he was when he didn't have to perform.

But yeah I think too that he was sharper than people think when he was clean and sober which was rare until the mid 90s.

I think it's a reasonable assumption that he may have not known what was going on. Between him being out of it and the being the "rock star" and not a "business guy" I could see him not giving a shit about the business side of things especially if he trusted his wife to take care of it.

That said, it's possible he knew everything and he is just as big of an asshole as his wife. Who really knows.
