My home town hasn't had a record store since I was in High School. The city I live in now, & the surrounding cities, have several, cool local record shops. Currently, I'm enjoying Vinyl Index. Here, you can order adult beverages to enjoy whilst you dig!

Gibert Joseph is THE place for CDs/vinyl in Paris, not a mom-pop shop but part of a larger operation that focuses on books:
https://www.gibert.com/stores/paris-vi- ... -bd-mangas
They are well stocked in Sludge type bands, I see all sorts of albums there, Roxy Blue, L.A. Guns, Stryper, and lots of other genres of course...

I was in Springfield, Missouri last week and the record store “Stick It In Your Ear” had a signed copy of Tuff’s ‘WCAGA’ for sale on display

Joliet, IL has a couple great ones here.
Audiophil's Records (same block as the legendary Rialto Theatre):

Disc Replay (part of a much bigger chain, but it's independently operated and the guy runs it like an indie):

I live in Austin, and I guess Waterloo Records qualifies. They're moving to a giant new location in a couple of weeks, too.

I will say that Raleigh is a terrible, hipster, no rock music town. It's hillbilly bluegrass or nothing in this burg.
Which is a shame because COC, Cry of Love, and others formed here when there was a solid rock and punk scene in the 80s and 90s. City lost its gritty soul.

Before I moved to LA, I lived in Escondido (North San Diego County) for 15 years.
Not sure I'd call it my hometown, but we had Gary's Record Paradise. It was a great used record store. And they could order anything we needed if they didn't have it.
One day we were in there and my oldest daughter, 14 or 15 at the time asked, "Mom, how do you get those big black CD's into the CD player"? I was flabbergasted! Girl! You know what a record album is!
Turns out, she was asking about 45's. She had never seen those before.
I heard it closed during Covid.
Seems like they have a new location, but there no link.

Danny’s Records was awesome in Fresno
Definitely had the independent store vibe. Bought lots of death metal- Headbangers Ball bands at that place. Had cool concert shirts also. First Obituary shirt I got at that place. Place always had CMC International bands like Kik Showbusiness
Think Dannys Records sold concert tickets for venues in the area for shows. I remember bought Great White ticket at that place for Madera Fair show was 10$ maybe 1995
Dude was definitely rock historian of the city. He was an actual rock celebrity of the town. He eventually got
late night show on local KNAC station for Fresno KRZR. He mixed everything mostly heavy Headbangers Ball bands. I think the shift was midnight to 3am..good times
I remember he told me about Scorpions:Alice Cooper show before it was announced
The Amoeba place in Hollywood is overrated.
Concert shows are cool-but record store is like hipster heaven…oh look Motorhead record…but no Lillian Axe

Euclid Records in the Bywater section of New Orleans is cool. They have an entire section dedicated to Black Metal.
Also, just a few steps away from Pizza Delicious, which is crappy in my opinion, but fine when you gotta have that slice of pizza to complete your day. Avoid on Sunday as it is full of soccer moms/dads and their messy, loud brats.

Old Amoeba Hollywood was awesome, although it got really over-priced over time. The new Amoeba doesn't have any vibe that the old one had.

I haven't been to the new Amoeba on Hollywood Blvd, but the old one on Sunset was pretty cool. You're right about it being overpriced though. But you could generally find what you needed.
I have been to the Amoeba on Haight Street in San Francisco though. I didn't even know that existed until 2020.
It's a big store that has been there for a long time. You could probably find Lillian Axe if you needed to.

Love that place. It's where I started to go once the Virgin Megastore on Champs Elysees closed and also the big section at FNAC got downside. Turns out, Gibert Joseph (it's near Notre Dame) was the best one all along.

I hit Euclid every time in New Orleans. The new (yellow) location has an even bigger stock than did the pink one.
Another place I almost always find something good is the smaller-but-still-solid Capital City Records in Baton Rouge.
