I just received an Email from Megadeth announcing that their upcoming album and tour will be the last. Do you buy this? How long can Dave stay retired?

It's a smart business move. Drum up interest like Slayer did and then come back in a few years for big payday shows.
Dave might actually want to hang it up at this point. He looks beyond haggard.

I agree with this. Dave will shut it down for awhile. Then festival offers will come in where they can do 5 shows a year for decent paydays. He'll bring Ellefson back for sure and claim "the promoters wanted it". Marty won't be as easy to get on board but of it's only a handful of shows a year for really good money I can see him agreeing to it.
Mind you, Megadeth has never been the live draw that Slayer was. Bigger stage show, pyro, etc. plus a more rabid fanbase. I can't really see Megadeth ever being given a headling slot on a big American metal festival like Aftershock, Sonic Temple etc.

Better have good opening bands
Megadeth has never been worth headline band
Megadeth gets boring after 30 minutes
Last time I saw MegaDave was at Aftershock in the sun around 5pm- most of crowd left for the big stage next door during Dave set

He'll probably do what I see many older bands doing. Hire some younger musicians to do all the running around and carry the show musically while he stands or sits in one place.

Isn’t that what he always does anyway? He’s usually within 2 feet of the mic stand.

I thought his final album and shows came before he slept on his arm wrong and ended the band.

I thought his final album and shows came before he got saved in rehab and ended the band because he wanted to make christian rock, but then chickened out when the bills started piling up.

Dave's kinda mellowed out over the years since finding religion, so I would think he'd be a bit more honest and forthcoming about these things now and not try to BS us with a false retirement rumor. We'll see, though.

Dave is balding like a mutha and probably wants to pull the plug before he balds all the way

Mustaine is lucky to be alive. I can't imagine what his 60s are like.

I'm starting the rumor now, Dave's retiring Megadeth to do a 50th anniversary album and tour with Metallica. You heard it here first.

I am not as jaded as most of you, I think he means it now.
And if in 5 years when he ia close 70 and wants to do 2 or 3 festival shows every summer so let him.

Weird hill to die on. What does he bring that is so important? I could see wanting Marty or Poland but Ellefson? He's a creep who never met an interviewer he didn't like and his playing is easily replaced.

I’ll bet I’ve see Megadeth live - unintentionally, more than any other band . I would guess around 10x they were the opening act for someone else I went to see . I think at half of those shows , Dave had some kind of a meltdown at the sound guy, security or crowd . He stopped the show to cry about something. I was never very impressed with them live . Only when they played all of the Rust In Peace album , did I think the crowd was into the whole set .

Mustaine always comes across as a humourless and boring prick.
I'm sure this album and tour will suck.

He can't sing live period.
Saw him last year and it was beyond awful and him talking was worse...just mumbling...
But, the music sounded excellent...
Dave should just hire a good singer and just play guitar...

He honestly should've done this in '83. The problem with Megadeth was never the instrumentation. It was always the pissing and moaning and the voice and the lyrics.

He can always do studio projects and have someone else sing. Not much $$ for him in that though.

The metal world just saw the entire Ozzy final show/ death and how it was a perfect way to go out. Dave probably wants to do the same. Dude looks like shit and really how many years does he have left? He puts out the album in Fall of 2026 and can drag the tour out another 3 years. And then of course he can do the Slayer thing and bounce in and out for a festival appearance here and there.
While Metallica has been in the stratosphere financially, they do split 4 ways (maybe not exactly even but still...) Dave has been able to pay his members an ok fee but still taking the lions share for years. So, he's probably more than set with the money.

As far as metal goes, Dave writes above average lyrics...I mean, he's no Lips, but they are solid...
And Dave's voice was serviceable for MD...kind of like Geddy for Rush...you couldn't imagine any other voice singing those songs...
But in the last decade-ish, he should have transitioned to a new singer..

Last time i saw them live his voice was buried in the mix and completely inaudible.
Wonder why he doesn't just hire a touring singer. Someone like John Bush or Mark Osegueda.

I was almost going to post this exact comment regarding seeing them probably more than any band unintentionally
lyrics and vocals in metal are never my focal point, but even though the musicianship is nearly flawless live, it is just stale and boring with Megadeth
I guess the only album I truly listened to multiple times and enjoyed is Rust in Peace….but I have a decent amount of their material, so I guess I am a fan of Dave’s riffs and have thoroughly respected most of the musicians in the band, but overall….mehhhgadeth
