Holy shit. Thought he wasn't long for this world due to alcoholism, not this.

I assume the other three will continue to try to keep what happened under wraps when Brent was let go, but now that he's gone, I wonder if some stories will start to come out.

Was he at the Sabbath back to the Beginning show?
Edit: I looked it up, he wasnt. I guess he was a bit of a maniac? Still, him leaving a few months ago was supposedly the only lineup change of the main dudes in 25 years, impressive. Terrible way to go for him, RIP.

Yeah, he was gone before then. One of the last straws was him posting a meme of Sharon and Ozzy superimposed on the Weekend at Bernie's poster.
They did two shows opening for Tool with Ben Eller subbing in, but now it seems like they've settled on a Canadian named Nick Johnston. Don't think they've made him an "official" member of the band yet, though.

The ‘ole left turn failure to yield. Gives me pause before every ride. RIP
Hinds was the singular cool guy in Mastodon.

Yes. So, you can see the problem. Was a few days before they announce he was out.

I dunno about total maniac, but he definitely partied hard back in the day. Story goes that he was partying with the guys from System of a Down at the hotel for one of the MTV Awards that both bands were performing at, and he just got wildly out of control, so one of the SOAD entourage ended up knocking him out and accidentally put him in a coma for a week. He was never the same after that, and seemed to get worse over time.

Riding a motorcycle on public roads is a gamble, as you are at the mercy of those around you!
Regardless of how good or experienced of a rider you are.
Random dumb teen who had their license for a few months, the senile 86 year old who is convinced they're sharp as ever or the dumb woman trying to put make-up on driving with her knee, etc...
One wrong move, especially with any vehicle bigger than a smart car, and you are up for grabs on whether you get scraped up, a permanent disability or death.
And I know nothing about this band or the guy, but based on a few comments, it sounds like he was trying to take himself out for a while living recklessly.

Just saw a post on social media from him yesterday ranting about how off-key and talentless his ex-bandmates were - that they were self-absorbed losers and how he was the only guy in the band that could play.
Well… now he can’t.

You'd think a Georgia based musician would know better after what happened with the Allman Brothers.
I don't want to speak ill of the dead, and it's possible this was one hundred percent the other person's fault, but there's a non-zero chance that Brent had been drinking.

They provided the intersection on Blabbermouth so I googled it and did a street view to see if I could figure out WTF happened
https://blabbermouth.net/news/former-ma ... ycle-crash
"An incident report from the Atlanta Police Department states that officers responded to an accident at
the intersection of Memorial Dr. SE and Boulevard SE at approximately 11:35 p.m. "Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male who was involved in the collision," the police said. "The male appeared to be operating a Harley Davidson during the time of collision. Medical personnel pronounced the male deceased. The other driver involved, a female who occupied a BMW SUV remained on scene. The APD Accident Investigations Unit responded to the scene to determine the circumstances.
Preliminary investigation indicates the male was traveling West on Boulevard. The female operating the BMW SUV failed to yield while turning left and collided into the male victim who was operating the Harley Davidson. The investigation remains active at this time."
The thing is Boulevard SE runs North-South, maybe just a mix up?
Spooky - there is a large cemetery next to this intersection!!

That intersection is two miles from Little Five Points on Moreland to the Northeast. That's also where Criminal Records and the Star Bar are, both places Brent played with Mastodon and more recently with West End Motel. Also, about the same distance southeast to The Earl, another bar they played back in the day.
Not going to say anything else, but that time of night, people can put two and two together.
I feel bad for his wife, I'm sure she's had a rough 2025 with everything that's gone on.

So you know nothing about the band, assume he’s trying to take himself out and on top of that offer a PSA on motorcycle riding.

Too many projections here man.

11:35pm at night? Was he on a Taco Bell run?
No idea what you're insinuating here as if anyone that's out at 11:35pm at night has it coming to them.
