The following bands went platinum or gold. Knowing what you know now in 2025, which of these bands really had no business having that much success?

Jackyl with Kix a close second. The others all deserved as much or more success than they had.

Mr Big
So many more deserved that success
F*ck probably every single band I listen to everyday…last 11 while eating extra pineapple pizza from beach deli..Lillian Axe- Wildside—Asphalt Ballet -Vain- Alleycat Scratch- Kik Tracee- Cycle Sluts From Hell- Electric Boys- Shotgun Messiah- Hardline-Valentine
That’s fun beach game- 1 slice per band.
Makes every slice special

Went with Saigon cuz I don't think I've ever heard a single song of theirs.

Jackyl may be the worst hard rock band to ever go platinum. You may know I despise Pantera but can sort of understand liking them. They were somewhat original for a big band at the time and had personalities. Jackyl were just gimmicky and generic.

Jackyl and it's not even close. Just awful dreck.

Britny Fox would be my pick. Just shows how popular the scene was at the time. A Cinderella knock-off could go Gold.

I didn't even realize Britny Fox went gold or I would have added them for sure. Oops! My bad. They probably would have gotten my vote too.

Jackyl were a joke. Should've been Z-list at best.

Happy to see Jackyl running away with this one. Just as I run away if I hear a Jackyl song.

BulletBoys - First album is alright. Got a few catchy songs. Understand why they went gold.
Faster Pussycat - Their first two albums kick arse. They should have done better than gold!
Jackyl - Not heard much of them. But the odd song I have heard didn't make me want to check out more of their material. Very generic sounding so they win this poll.
Kix - Great band. Love all their records except their last one.
L.A. Guns - Debut album kicks arse. And they are one of the few bands that have actually released good records since their heyday. Deserved to go gold for sure. Although I find their most popular record Cocked and Loaded to be a big step down from the debut.
Mr. Big - They had that big ballad, so I understand why they did. Not for me though.
Saigon Kick - Don't think I've ever heard a song by this band.
Slaughter - Their debut album is an acquired taste due to the vocals. But there are plenty of catchy songs that are perfect for the genre.
Steelheart - boring from what I've heard. Which isn't much, thankfully.
Trixter - Very cheesy, but a couple of catchy songs.

You people that have never heard Saigon Kick need to check them out.
I always thought AIC stole some of their thunder

Not sure why Jackyl is running away with it.
ACDC meets hair metal, singer can sing his ass off , and I believe they had 5 music videos off their first album alone.
As well as the novelty of the chainsaw song (which I hate)
All of that equals at least the 1 gold record. Moreso than Trixter, anyway. And it didnt have a pussy ballad to move units, like Mr Big, Saigon Kick, etc.

I don't like AIC so I will probably give it a miss.

Their first album went platinum and the follow up went gold, which is really surprising since the first album came out almost a year after Nevermind.

First album going platinum doesnt surprise me. I heard all 5 of those songs on rock radio.
Second album doing anything is surprising to me.

They opened for Aerosmith's last leg of the GAG tour. That must've helped.
And I agree w/ you, btw. I caught the back end of their set opening for Smiff and they were good. JJ was a good frontman. They played like they didn't give a fuck what was happening in Seattle and if you still had the goods, there was still money to be made. The bands that tried to "adapt" were the ones that went down the shitter.

Kix were AC/DC meets hair metal.
Jackyl was AC/DC meets Intellectual disability (ID), also known as general learning disability (in the United Kingdom), and formerly mental retardation, a generalized neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by significant impairment in intellectual and adaptive functioning that is first apparent during childhood. They came through my area twice in early 93, once with Aerosmith and once with Damn Yankees. I went to the DY show, but because of Friday night traffic, we got there late and missed their set. I thought the "Lumberjack" song was really cheesy, but I thought they would be fun to see live. What also sucked is that my friend and I had review tickets and a photo pass for the show, but they also threw in backstage passes (which was a rarity), but they were only good pre-show, so we didn't get meet either band.
