The Beach Boys Still Hate Each Other...Feud At Brian Wilson's Memorial

Post by Lobo »

Why am I not surprised.

There have been countless instances of the guys in this band (members that have passed away and those still alive) ripping each other on different occasions, lawsuits over writing credits, etc.

This time it's Al Jardine and Mike Love jousting over Mike Love's eulogy to Brian Wilson at his memorial. Love made it all about giving credit to where credit is due...to himself!...sheesh!

Just imagine the patience and understanding a human being would need to be in a band with Mike Love LOL. No wonder Brian Wilson fried his brain with drugs...he had to put up with a shithead like that! The guy has always come across as an arrogant, self congratulating prick. Doesn't seem like much has changed.

Some background: Mike Love filed a lawsuit in 1994 that gave him recognition for writing the lyrics to "Good Vibrations". Brian Wilson wrote the music and produced it.

The Beach Boys Are Beefing About Their Speeches at Brian Wilson's Memorial

"Mike wanted everybody to know that he wrote every single word of 'Good Vibrations,'" said Al Jardine

The surviving Beach Boys are still finding things to fight about — and this time, it's about the speeches at Brian Wilson's funeral.

Wilson died in June, and his memorial took place on July 9 in Los Angeles. His Beach Boys bandmates gave speeches at the event, including Mike Love — and that speech has since been criticized by Al Jardine.

"Mike wanted everybody to know that he wrote every single word of 'Good Vibrations,'" Jardine told Rolling Stone. "I didn't feel the compassion, let's put it that way. Mike's got some serious megalomania problems."

According to Jardine, he began his own address with a jab at Love's speech: "Mike, I've written some songs with Brian myself. We wrote one called 'Surfin' Down the Swanee River.' It just wasn't as big as 'Good Vibrations.'"

Jardine said of their respective speeches, "I was focusing on Brian, and Mike was more focused on Mike. I think that is what it boiled down to."

A spokesperson for Love denied Jardine's claims, saying, "Mike's focus has always been on uplifting audiences around the world through the music he helped create with his bandmates and cousin Brian. His commitment has been to preserve and share this great American songbook while providing resources to fellow Beach Boys shareholders, including Al Jardine. In addition, Mike and the Beach Boys have dedicated significant time and support to nonprofit organizations using their platform to give back to communities in need."

Reminding everyone that Love donates to charity is, I suppose, one way to respond to this accusation!

Mike Love is an arsehole, he’s had a free ride for 60 years thanks to Brian Wilson.

Well he's a RWNJ too, so he gets it honest.

It's absolutely idiotic to contend Zep weren't A-listers in the 1970s.

Brian was a genuine musical genius. Mike Love MAY have had an ounce of luck and/or talent but he’s for sure a major asshole.

Mile Love did write the lyrics to Good Vibrations and others and he kept the band touring for a 100 years so I’ll give him some credit.

This. Probably helps that he's not actually a Wilson or related to the Wilsons.

Mike, Don Henley and John Mellencamp all have no business still being alive with as nasty as they are.

imagine your drummer literally being friends with Charles Manson, and you still end up being the biggest asshole in the band.

Beach Boys recorded a Manson song … Dennis unintentionally got Sharon Tate slaughtered … I learned last year Sharon was a regular on Beverly Hillbillies, she played Drysdale’s secretary and wore a black wig.

There’s a Beach Boys doc on Disney, they’d added two new guys to the group in 1971 and 1972 … they only lasted a couple of years but I never knew it and I thought I knew everything.
