Call me old fashioned... call me shallow... but I don't understand why an adult would wear these odd piercings.

Don't people grow out of that?

I get it when your a late teen or 20-something, but any real adult wearing these... I don't get it, especially as they get older...

The 40-50 year olds covered in tattoos, with metal gadgets hanging off their nose, lips, ears and eyebrows is beyond my comprehension.

Don't even start me with the ear-lobe gauges...

And then there is the "I'm not wearing my gauges today, so I will let my 3" floppy ear-lobes swing around my shoulders!" WTF!

The septum (nose) piercing is one of the most heinous looks as well...

At any restaurant, any coffee shop, anywhere... if you serve me and you have this in your face or those whacky gauges in your ears, you just lost 75% of your potential tip.

I can accept when a female has the tiny nose piercing, a small stone, or jewel... but it's usually the grossest pigs who are wearing the pig-like septum piercing that looks like a barbell hanging off their face... which matches their offensive lineman sized legs (covered in flowers), their blue hair and a name tag that says Star or Flower.

I also find it odd that these tattooed morons who eventually realize their mistake, go spend more money to fix, re-do, cover up, or pay a fortune to lazer off the ignorant sh!t they tattooed on their body the first time!

And WTF is with covering your entire arm, shoulder and torso in solid green ink?

Anyone wanna enlighten me?

Those big loop earrings get me. You have to leave them in forever, have a big loopy earlobes, or have surgery to fix.

The other thing is that everybody has this stuff, you don’t stand out anymore, and you are not an inidividual. You look like 20 other people I saw today.

It is pretty shitty that you would leave a smaller tip because of how someone looks.

That said, personally I am not a fan of any of that shit. But I don't give a shit what someone else feels comfortable wearing or their style choices. I recall going into a GameStop like 15 years ago and I went to ask the guy at the counter a question, and he had enormous gauges in and I could literally read the return policy on the wall behind him through his ear lobe. Wouldn't be something I would do, but that's not me.

This reeks of old man yelling at clouds and is pretty hypocritical when most of us had hair down to our asses and wore earrings (myself included) and some of us wore eyeliner, tight pants, blouses, bracelets, foot high teased hair, and tried to look as flamboyant as possible. (not me)

The only thing I have a hard time wrapping my head around is face tattoos. 1) because they are permanent and 2) instinctually looking at another human being having something completely unnatural on their face is just unsettling. Add to that, it seems the tattoo style du jour is kindergarten scribble which makes a horrible idea even fucking worse.

I work as a public school teacher. There are several female teachers in their late 40s with nose rings and a couple others with studs. Others with various tattoos that they like to show off whenever they can. They all look ridiculous. Some of them got the nose rings recently. They're 47 but really are mentally like 15 year olds and trying to relive their high school years.

I get how it can be unsettling or seem strange that older people are so decked out in piercings and/or tattoos. And a lot of it, depending how/where/what it is, can look ridiculous and downright off-putting. But at the same time, to each their own, ya know? People express themselves or decorate themselves however they want. Shit, I'm 45 with a full arm sleeve, half sleeve on the other arm, and chest and back pieces. I have reasons for them and they mean personal things to me. Do they in any way affect how I live my life, do my job or treat people? Fuck no.

Maybe older folks like me had a bunch of piercings when they were younger and just never stopped wearing them? They just became part of who they are. As long as they aren't assholes or harming others and are decent members of society/communities is really all that matters. But it's subjective too. I know a lot of fully tatted/pierced people who are the nicest, most generous folks on earth. And I know some totally unassuming, nerdy, nary an inch of body art anywhere types who are complete fucking shitbags. You just never know. Again, to each their own with all that stuff. Just don't be a dick.

I don't think it's a stretch to say men age better than women do - which is why I think tattoos are for men.

Only the prettiest women pull them off as they age. And the ones on the stomach/chest just look awful either way.

But I get it - they're not getting them for me or my approval. Same way I feel about people who don't like mine.

That's called a blackout tattoo, and people get it when they hate all the tattoos they've got in that area, so they have someone just cover it all up with black ink.

But I also think that a lot of people, especially women, realize having a bunch of cupcakes and cartoon characters on your arms looks dumb as shit over the age of 30 (which is what everyone warned them about), so they get the blackout tattoo instead of just removing them so they don't have to admit it was a dumb idea in the first place.

This is true. I was having lunch at Los Toros in Chatsworth not long ago when this guy walks in and sits down while I'm eating my meal, and he's got shit dangling from all corners of his face and he seemed like he was well into his 60s, maybe pushing 70.

I couldn't look at it while I was eating, but then he looked vaguely familiar to me after awhile. It was fricking Al Jourgensen.

So, even on a certified rockstar, it's completely ridiculous - Especially in the daylight.
