Korn opening up for System of a Down?

Korn opened up for System of a Down at the Meadowlands for 2 shows this week.

Korn has headlined arenas, sheds, and stadiums at the biggest festivals in the world. Yet somehow they are opening up for System of a Down. To me, Korn should be headlining. I don't recall System even headlining arenas here in the States, yet now they're a stadium band? Anybody have any idea why Korn would sign up for this?

Seeing it in some places as a co-headliner event. But yeah, IMO Korn is the bigger band by far, too.

I'm surprised that you're surprised.

Off the top of my head, I'd assume SOAD is the bigger band. Just looked over their discographies. Album sales from back in the day are pretty similar. SOAD's biggest album sold more than Korn's biggest album.

SOAD also seems to have a stronger legacy and their music ages much better than Korn's. They don't tour much and their concerts have more of a special-event, catch-them-while-you-can status.

Korn was on an arena headlining tour, and when they got to Las Vegas, they were opening for Rammstein. Just a few days prior they had headlined the Forum themselves.

Maybe Korn is chill about who they play with, even though they put asses in seats themselves.

And as said before, SOAD all hate each other and rarely play, boosting demand.

Is this tour coming to Yurop? I feel the need to rub one out.

Scarcity.

SOAD is like Rage Against The Machine (and, as mentioned above, Rammstein) - they go years and years without touring, so when they do it sells gangbusters. System typically plays a few festival dates a year and that's it, so a tour is going to do well.

Korn is out every year, so demand is smaller and it would make sense they're not the headliner.

I saw Korn open for System at Oakland Arena in 2021. It had been ten years since I’d last seen System and roughly 20 years since I last saw Korn.

The headliner is for a reason. System’s music has aged remarkably well. Korn’s has stayed in that era. Seeing Jonathan Davis up there at 50 in a kilt yelling about being bullied in high school was just weird. It connected a lot better when I was actually getting bullied in high school.

First saw System in 1998, seeing them next weekend in Toronto. I’m glad they still do the occasional gig. They’re always fantastic.
