Of course the object is to win, but winning is a team accomplishment. My point was merely that you can't rank individual players based on the accomplishments of the teams that they played for. Some players were lucky enough to play for better teams than others, therefore the only way to judge one individual against another is by using their stats (not that I meant that to imply that compiling stats is the object of a team game). Franco Harris's Steelers were better teams than Walter Payton's Bears but that doesn't change the fact that Walter Payton was a better RB than Franco Harris. By the same token, Joe Montana's 49ers were better teams than Brett Favre's Packers but Brett Favre was a better QB than Joe Montana. If you aren't smart enough to comprehend, then I'm sorry but I can't help you.thejuggernaut wrote:Based on YOUR absurd logic, the Bears got Payton not in an attempt to win a SB, but to help him pile up stats, and were quite content with only one SB because Payton was able to set a record ?
The hilarity is that you are so stupid you can't even sidestep your own stupidity.
If you could ask Chuck Noll, I am sure he'd tell you he would rather have Harris.
If you could ask Ditka (since he was coach when the Bears won the SB) I am sure he'd say Payton.
If you could ask Payton, I can guarantee you he'd say he'd love to have 3 more rings.

If Brett Favre hadn't given the opposing team an extra possession per game, his team wouldn't have lost so many games thus, by extension, his team would be "better"Monsters_of_Rock wrote:Of course the object is to win, but winning is a team accomplishment. 1. Let me rephrase that. The only person on the face of the earth who is not a Packers homer.Monsters_of_Rock wrote:I'm not the only person on the face of the earth who thinks that way, I'm merely one of many. Your objectivity is obviously impaired by your obvious hatred of Favre.
2. Please provide one instance of a quote where I have stated I hate Brett Favre. You can't. Your fanboyism of Favre has impaired YOUR objectivity and anyone who criticizes Favre "hates" Favre in your skewed world. But hey, my criticizing Favre prompted you to suggest I dislike EVERY player, even AFTER having praised Brady and Montana, so your judgment is laughable.
3. I said I lost respect for him because of his constant waffling as a way to skip practice. That's not hatred.
4. I still think he's one of the best ever, just not better than Brady or Montana because he makes far too many stupid decisions - the guy has almost 2 decades of experience yet he still makes boneheaded 2nd year QB type mistakes.
5. He's exciting to watch because he makes game changing plays, helping the opposition almost as often as helping his own team.
I was referring to the video game, but hey, I'll play along. Madden won a SB in an era long gone. he last coached 30 years ago. He won during an era before it became a true business when sandlot football could still be effective. Favre, being a sandlot QB, is obviously someone that would appeal to Madden. Plus, Favre's admiration for Madden led to Madden being a tad bit biased toward Favre.Monsters_of_Rock wrote:PS - Madden has more credibility than you and I combined. Now, assuming madden knows Favre very well, all those years when GB was struggling with losing records and Madden was busy saying "he's having fun out there" - most likely he was simply referring to his sandlot mentality, but what if he actually WAS having fun tossing the ball around in a losing effort ? Couple that with his retirement waffling to skip practices, one could easily say he's an extremely selfish player.
Now, in there interest of referencing people recently active in the game in some capacity who had reached the pinnacle before Reagan was president, let's talk about Al Davis. Al Davis has 1 AFL title and 3 SB titles. He has a proven track record. Would you value his opinion NOW over your own opinion ??

Your anti-Favre bias makes it impossible to have an intelligent debate with you. You're spewing propaganda that is blatantly false and refusing to be objective. To make matters worse, you're displaying "fanboyism" (your word, not mine) towards the likes of Joe Montana and Tom Brady (two of the most overrated QBs ever). You don't have a clue what you're talking about, and I'm done with you on this particular subject. Go on believing what you want to believe, I know better.

Favre averages a turnover per game - as the player playing the most important position in a game predicated on ball control, by default, he can't be considered the best ever. It;s really quite simple to understand.
So which is it, I am negative about everyone or am fanboying Montana and Brady ?

Tonight in the Giants-Cowboys game, AL Michaels started talking about Tony Romo and his impressive numbers "is he Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman or is he another Danny White, with good numbers, but never quite getting it done"
Chris Collinsworth "we'll have to wait until the playoffs to have that one answered. He'll have to win some big games if he wants to be up there with those guys"
Chalk up two more credible sources who understand that it's ALL about wins, and not inflated stats.

The only problem with that is the fact that Favre has both the wins and the inflated stats. Now if you come back and try to say he never won any big games it'll be the dumbest statement you've ever made (which actually would be quite an achievement).thejuggernaut wrote:Fascinating.Monsters_of_Rock wrote:thejuggernaut:

And he won his title in the offense Montana helped create.

The Collinsworth quote does not state that it's all about wins, it states that you must have some big wins to be considered among the greats. Here's the quote:thejuggernaut wrote:I don't remember saying he didn't have a big win. You wanted proof of anyone high up that said it's all about wins.
"we'll have to wait until the playoffs to have that one answered. He'll have to win some big games if he wants to be up there with those guys"
So once again you have failed miserably, but by all means go ahead and have the last word. We all know it'll just kill you if you don't.

Did you think I said all wins have to be big wins, because I didn't. You need to have some big wins because big wins is what it's all about. You play the game to win the big one. It's not that hard to understand.Monsters_of_Rock wrote:The Collinsworth quote does not state that it's all about wins, it states that you must have some big wins to be considered among the greats. White never won a Super Bowl. Staubach and Aikman won Super Bowls. The reference was "is he Staubach and Aikman, or is he Danny White". In other words, all stats and no titles.
When Collinsworth said "up there with those guys", it was in reference to Staubach and Aikman. His mention of having to "win some big games if he wants to be up there with those guys", those guys being Staubach and Aikman, means Super Bowls.
So, was Collinsworth referring to pre season games ? Oh, wait, maybe a Monday nighter ?? No, he was referring to Super Bowls.
Now, speaking of people needing to have the last word >

Your deflection tactics are sad. Either you forget everything you learned in your grade 10 psychology class, or you really are that simple. I'm leaning toward the second one, since a 40 something cheerleader of men is quite indicative of someone with an IQ teetering around the level of "throws his own feces at onlookers".Monsters_of_Rock wrote:Shame on me for allowing you to lure me back in with your nonsensical posts, and thank you for reminding me that I had stated I was done. Montana and Brady are two of the most overrated QB's ever? Really? What's your criteria? Seems to me that those guys won more big games than just about anybody. Being great has nothing to do with playing in the clutch.
During a big game and in a loosing effort if a dude can toss 4ints and still break 400 yards.....That defines greatness.

Plus, Moon is 4th all time in passing yardage, despite his playing 6 years in the CFL.
And he accomplished his numbers playing in RADICALLY different systems.
Moon must be the best ever.

Brett Favre just told all his haters, once again, to suck it.

I will also tell the haters to suck it...Bert rocks, this is why he came back, because he believes he can do it and its fun for him...amzing how he can take so many hits in a game and still have enough in the tank to zip one last great pass with juice, all while getting slammed to the ground yet again
Fuck you Bert Favor haters

As much as I dig Farve....On my list of all times greats BTW.
Anyone who thinks he will go down in history as a better QB then Montana is a fucking idiot.
Anyone watch the NFL kickoff show where they was talking about Farve when right out of the blue one of the commentators says....Montana and Unitas are the best QB's to ever play the game.
Right then all of them started naming big game QB's but no one brought up Farve.
Farve name didn't come up till they started talking about slingers.
