I've always contended his mom had a speech impediment and really wanted to name him Anthony.

I loved him.
Probably a Hall of Famer.
He and Allan Houston both fall into the 'what may have been' class.

Hard to say with Penny.
The injury bug hit when Shaq left and Penny became the focus of opponents.

What Allan Houston are you talking about ?JakeYonkel wrote:I loved him.

The Detroit player who became a starter his 3rd year in the league before being traded to the Knicks, where he played 7 years of healthy ball, missing only 10 games combined, before age caught up with him.
Injuries took their toll on him when he hit 32, but he was pretty healthy and productive his whole career.
Heck, even the season before he retired, while missing 30 + games, he still produced above his career average for points.
His career was cut SHORT by injuries, but he was not at all ravaged by injuries the way Penny was.
Not even a close comparison.
He was a very solid player but, even had he played until 37, probably wasn't HOF worthy.

Wow... looking at Houston's career stats, I guess you're right. I think I thought he was a lot younger than he was when he had to retire with the knee issues. Great pure scorer though.

In the big picture, it worked out allright for them.
I remember in 1996, Dave Checketts had star mania.
He bought Gretzky for the Rangers, and there were serious rumors he was going after Reggie Miller and Charles Barkley.
I am assuming a moment of prudence hit him, or perhaps Patrick Ewing's ego (maybe both) so they went with LJ and Houston instead, along with Chris Childs.
