Re: The official NHL thread
Columbus is 8-4 with 16 points -- that doesn't really "suck". Hell, when they lost Commodore, Huselius, and Moreau I was going to be happy with .500 hockey.
Saturday they play Minnesota and the Buckeyes don't play. If they don't draw 14K, then they have problems.
Garon is playing really well right now -- gotta ride the hot hand. Wilson and Clark have been suprises, but the season is still young.
I won't venture to say playoffs just yet, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

I thought they started under .500, but I don't pay as close attention to the Western Conference.Frett_Bored wrote:Columbus is 8-4 with 16 points -- that doesn't really "suck".
I went to the St. Louis game on Saturday, and they look impressive. I've never seen ticket demand like that at the Garden for a B's game. In a long time at least. Scalpers were selling for 2-3 times face amount, and ten minutes before game time they were gone. A guy sitting next to us came in at the start of the 2 period with his daughter and paid $220 for two tickets from a couple at the bar across the street who were taking their time getting to the game. For 2 periods of hockey. I think face was $40 or $50. Bandwagon is completely full.

Lost 2-0 to Habs but Price was hot that game. Canucks played fairly well but just couldn't get the break through.Royal Dudeness wrote:Lets hear it for my boys, the Vancouver Canucks!

Re: The official NHL thread
Curious to see if the Habs can remain a thorn in the B's collective side. Should be interesting. Price has looked good thus far, and Habs are performing well despite the PP sputtering; Gomez/Gionta not seeming to know the season has started; and Andre Markov missing most of the first month of the season.chungasrevenge wrote:Round 1 with the Habs tonight. In the meantime, here's something we can all agree on:
Leafs suck! It never gets old watching them struggle year after year. Woo-hoo, they acquired Versteeg and Armstrong, plan the parade route. Who wouldn't win a cup with the #1 and #2 centers like Grabovski and Bozak.? Not to mention, the invisible man, Phil Kessel.

The B's might be slow out of the gate after playing a real physical game last night in Pittsburgh. Should be good.
I almost feel bad for Leafs fans. It looks like the team has already thrown in the towel on the season. They have no offense and Kessell is already going into his sulking mode. Another lottery pick for the B's is a real possibility.

They're playing so fucking lazy. They got fat over the summer. They lost the eye of the tiger. There is no sense of urgency.chungasrevenge wrote:Cup fatigue.johnk5150 wrote:Every single Blackhawk is stealing money.

Very predictable for an extremely young team that won the cup last year. They have the talent to put it all together, but they ARE missing the role players that had to let go of in the off-season.chungasrevenge wrote:Cup fatigue.johnk5150 wrote:Every single Blackhawk is stealing money.

Re: The official NHL thread
I don't think they particularly miss any individual they had to get rid of, but they absolutely miss them as a group. They just aren't meshing at all with the new role players yet, and some of the key guys (particularly Kane, but also Keith much of the season and even Toews to a lesser degree) have played beneath their talent levels. I think my optimism has dimmed to hope, but I still believe the talent is there to make a decent playoff run. Repeating is hard enoughWOLF wrote:Very predictable for an extremely young team that won the cup last year. Price looks great. I like Subban. Ton of floppers. Does Martin teach diving in practice? Habs always ruining the party.
B's had no energy and sorely miss Krecji and Boychuk. Tuuka can't catch a break. He reminds me of Price last year.

Re: The official NHL thread
The Leafs are practically the Bruins minor league system. They hand delivered them Rask, Seguin, and another great prospect to be named at the 2011 draft!
B's were definitely tired after the game in Pittsburgh the night before, and they're also missing a scoring line (Savard, Krejci, and Sturm), as well as a quality D-man. I'll take the win though. The Habs, again, aren't built for the playoffs, but you need to get there first. They have pluckiness on the 3rd/4th lines, the potential to have two good scoring lines and a strong PP when things are clicking, and a Carey Price capable of being among the league's best keepers when his head is right. I never thought they would have been 10-5-1 at this point.
The Bruins have too much talent not to win the division, but as usual, the Habs will give them fits.

Reality check time:

The 14 year old daughter of Sens assistant coach, and former NHL'er, Luke Richardson passed away today. The poor child hung herself on Friday and died of the injuries inflicted today.

And the story about Luke Richardson's daughter is fucking heartbreaking.

So Colin Campbell didn't suspend Matt Cooke for his dirty hit on Marc Savard because he doesn't like Savard. Even after Cooke's own teammates said he should have been suspended. I don't see how Campbell can keep his job after this.

Re: The official NHL thread
Ahh,the Deadspin article. While Campbell looks bad for questioning the call on his son,it is certainly a reach to suggest that a 3 year old email had much to do with the Cooke decision. In fact,Campbell went on many tv/radio interviews stating that as much as he felt Cooke deserved a suspension,he couldn't under the laws as they were written at the time,ie,it was deemed a legal hit.Obviously, with rule changes,it is now an illegal hit.Campbell doesn't come out of this smelling like a rose, but what you are implying is,while not improbable,a bit of a stretch. If an email surfaces where he calls David Booth an Oscar Wilde readin',cake eatin' friend of Dorothy, then you're on to something.skydog112046 wrote:So Colin Campbell didn't suspend Matt Cooke for his dirty hit on Marc Savard because he doesn't like Savard. So far, anyways. The team has played great team defence in front of him, and some night, like yesterday vs Philly, the kid has stood on his head.pieceofme wrote:I guess the price was right afterall....
Many were doubting the Habs, as their schedule was "easy" early on, but with wins over Vancouver, Boston, and Philly in the past week, people need to take notice.
Also, Flyers were total bush league last night. Powe was running all over the place in the third period, taking cheap shots and stirring up shit. Shelley on the PP with 90 seconds to play and down 3 goals. Richards bitching about Subban after the game, when all the kid was doing was standing up to the Flyers goonery. Stupid.

Yeah, a bit of a surprise. I'm thinking they're gonna rest him a few games after the big shooting gallery game the other night. People were squawking about too many consecutive starts. From the other day:
Flyers Rest BOB
November 20, 2010
Finally, Sergei Bobrovsky gets a rest. Odd thing is, coach Peter Laviolette said befor Saturday's game against Washington that Brian Boucher was going to play and it had nothing to do with BOB needing rest. Lavy would not even acknowledge that his rookie might be tired after 12 straight starts. But Bob told goalie coach Jeff Reese he needed a breather.

Jackets win again -- they're now 13-6. They went 3-0 on a west coast roadie, beating LA, Anaheim, and San Jose, and tonight they take care of Nashville at home.
They still don't have Huselius or Moreau, but Nash is on fire.
This season will be fun if they can keep it up.
