I love how the media has taken Cashman's comments and turned the words into a negative.

You don't have to be an MLB GM to understand that at Jeter's age, being a starting SS is next to impossible.
4 yrs is a long time.
I find it easy to envision in the 4th year of his deal or sooner, his lack of defensive play at SS will force the Yankees to move Jeter somewhere else.
OF is the logical choice, unless Jeter becomes the full time DH.

Made them play "select home games" in Puerto Rico, and then have Mr. Schedule Maker send them on a road trip to Pittsburgh, Philly, Seattle, San Francisco, and Oakland. The team was on the road for a month! They were in the running for a wild card spot before that trip from hell killed them. Imagine if "the little train that could" had made the playoffs and embarassed their owners, MLB.

The New York Yankees have reached an agreement on a minor league contract with pitcher Freddy Garcia, a baseball source told ESPN.com.

Garcia will receive a $1.5 million base salary if he makes the big league club. He can earn $3.6 million in possible incentives, topping out at 30 starts, according to a source.
It also lets Garcia opt out by March 29, according to a report.

Garcia, 35, has a career 133-87 record with a 4.13 ERA in 12 big league seasons. He went 12-6 in 28 starts with the Chicago White Sox last season.

Ohlendorf was awarded a raise from $439,000 to $2,025,000 Wednesday by arbitrators Steven Wolf, Fredric Horowitz and Robert Herzog, who heard the case a day earlier. The Pirates had argued he should be paid $1.4 million.

The 28-year-old right-hander had a 4.07 ERA in 21 starts for Pittsburgh last year, and his record(1 win, 11 losses) on a team that went a major league-worst 57-105 was down from 11-10 the previous year.

Ohlendorf's ERA was lower than the 4.31 of Cincinnati's Edinson Volquez, who will make $1,625,000 this year. Volquez was 4-3 last year after returning from elbow surgery and a 50-game suspension following a positive drug test.

Twelve more players remain in arbitration, with hearings scheduled through Feb. 18.
