They're moving the kickoffs up 5 yards. We're going to witness the death of the kick return.

Which sucks because the kickoff is right up there as one of the more exciting plays in sports. Devin Hester and Josh Cribbs can't be in favor of that. Good thing Hester broke the record last year, because he may not score on a return again.

Brilliant rule changes today. Moving the kick off back to the 35 was the right thing to do. Now, if we can actually have a season, that would be great.

You're the queen of making blanket statements without backup. How is it 'the right thing to do'?

You want more touchbacks? The league has just legislated the equivalent of placing the ball on the 20 yard line after every score and you think that's good for the game. Idiot.

lil pp is showing his stupidity again.
This new rule makes as much sense as adding 2 more games and for them to use the player safety line when they want 2 more games showes what a bunch of hippocrites they are.

LOL. Wrong on all counts. And what a surprise that a Bears fan would be against this rule.

The NFL only expects touchbacks to increase 5-15% next season. That's far from placing the ball at the 20 after every score, as you stated.

What's more, they are simply moving the kickoff to where it was before they moved it back in 1994. This is the right move because it will add more safety to the game, while making it harder for dominant kick returners to dominate a game, which they were never intended to do in the first place. Sorry if that means your precious Bears will have fewer opportunities to steal games on special teams because their offensive and defensive units cannot get it done.

I'd rather see a team pick apart another team play by play, rather than see some run-back specialist run one back every fucking game..

Yeah, it's good for the show , but it's just a bunch of rah-rah bullshit

Kickers are better now than they were even five years ago. In the last six years toucbacks have doubled. Look it up. Shortening improving kicker's field by five yard will RADICALLY increase the TBs. Bet on it.

They are trying to reduce returns citing the amount of injuries that occur. If a team is willing to lose a star receiver or d-back to injury on a kickoff then they must think the risk is worth the reward.

Returns are fun as hell to watch, and even if it's not a return for a TD it's still exciting to see a player return one out to midfield. Add another 5 yards to each kickoff while making the defenders have to run 5 less yards on top of not allowing wedge formations and I'll bet returns are reduced by about a third.

Smooth move NFL. It's the continued pussification of a league that seems hell bent on turning all the games into the watered down abomination that is the Pro Bowl.

The Lions drafter Fairley to play along side Suh. That defense is going to be unreal, especially if they can pick up a CB in round 2.

Bad pick. He was a reach at 12. They would have been better off trying to pry Kolb out of Philly.

Anthony Costanzo, great pick!! This guy is ready to step in and do a solid job protecting Peyton at LT. Charlie Johnson will move to LG, and we have a solid offense line. Great!

The road BACK starts SOON!

FUCK YOU. And yes, the road BACK to losing in the first round of the playoffs begins SOON.

Redskins - nice to see them trade down and acquire a pick for the first time I can remember, don't know anything about the DE they drafted.

Whatever, draft is a crapshoot. Glad to see the owners losing round after round in court. Hopefully the players can keep together long enough to win this thing.

Congrats to Danny Watkins only the fifth Canadian to be taken in the first round of the NFL draft.

My head has been spinning about this all night. Jay Cutler (and the rest of the QBs) shit himself. Wow. NOBODY'S going to run on them!

I am quite happy with Von Miller! Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

When they start switching schemes and come at a team in a 4-3 with those 2 guys up the middle their edge rushers are going to be getting free shots at opposing QB's. And when the two of them get in sync after playing together for a while and start doing cross-overs and confusing blockers it's going to be brutal.

Not without an upgrade at LB & CB. You can quick pass them all night long. I like the 2nd round picks, but the sure didn't help themselves in the defensive backfield. They better do something in free agency.

I don't think they are too bad at LB, but they can certainly use a CB which they ought to be able to pick up in free agency. Even the best D-backs can't hold coverage all day long with a lousy D-line, but a great D-line can make it easier for backs to cover receivers. Detroit should have the best D-line in the NFL.

I agree that QB's can quick pass on them, but I think that it will only be the elite ones that can read quickly and get get the ball out quickly & accurately enough to get away with it. Opponents won't be able to run to keep the Lions honest. Any QB that doesn't do a 3 step drop and then release it is going down.

I know I don't watch as many games as you do so I can only go by the small sample I saw, but I watched a very good NE offensive line struggle against last years D-line and a top QB have difficulty doing anything against a sub-par set of backs until after halftime adjustments. Once Suh & Fairley get in sync after a couple of games it's going to be twice as hard for a QB to adjust. If Stafford stays healthy I'm thinking they are a 10-6 team that nobody wants to play come January.

Nobody could run on the Vikes the latter part of the 2000's and they won nothing, not to mention their back 7 was way better than the Lions is right now. I think it's a great pick, but Fairley hasn't proven anything yet.

I don't think anyone is predicting the Lions to win the Superbowl. But also remember we are talking about a team that averaged 2-3 wins a season for quite some time. They should be respectable again and beat some decent teams. I think they can be a 10 win team if their QB stays healthy and their D-line clicks.
