When I was a grade school kid, I played catcher and also wore number 8 so I wanted to play like him. I had three heroes as a kid and he was one of them. I got the chance to talk to him on the phone during Ron Barr's Sports Byline USA radio show when he was promoting his autobiography "The Gamer".
