USA choked.

I don't know why, but I am still pissed off about this loss. I keep telling myself it is only bitch soccer, but I still feel bad about it.

Why do soccer players(men/women) love to mess around with the ball in their end of the field, when they are up a goal with a few minutes left? Is it so hard to kick the ball down the field?

The U.S failed to manage the victory twice.

It looked like her knee was bothering her. She did her job during the pks. One stop usually gets the job done.

It is not her fault that the U.S players didn't know how to kick a PK. I still don't understand why the coach didn't have her best strikers kick first.

Wombach and Morgan should have taken the first pks. It also sucks that they had to take out the short haired blonde chick in OT. She could have been used for the penalty kicks.

What sucks is that for the longest time the US had the best women's soccer team and that time is coming to an end as other teams are catching up and our style is getting outdate. It's gonna get harder and harder to win.

I wouldn't say that sucks at all. Not long ago, nobody stood a chance against USA, Germany, Brazil. Tournament games regularly ended 8-0 and were boring as shit. As much fun as it may be to see your team dominate, it's just bad for the sport. And if they want women's soccer to become more accepted they can't keep using a system that the men outgrew in the 70s.

Because possession gives you more control than blindly giving up the ball every time it comes near your box. Japan played that very well last night.

Being a great striker doesn't really mean much when it comes to penalties. In important situations they usually go for more experienced players, because it's a mental thing more than anything else. Boxx and Lloyd both have well over 100 appearances with the national team. Also, it's not the coach's call. Shooters are more or less determined before tournaments, but ultimately it's the players' decision if they're up for the pressure.

However, I agree that Alex Morgan should have done everything. She's dreamy.

I agree and I know what you're saying is completely true. I'm South American so if teams win or not doesn't matter because I'm gonna watch soccer no matter what. I just don't know if dominating is a bad thing for the American mindset even if it meant we played against quadraplegics because here it's all about winning. But you're right it is good that the other countries are getting better.

What is really interesting has been the coverage here and the way the team has been portrayed in a manner that suggests we're the underdogs. In the back of my mind I'm thinking WTF because we've won the cup twice and women's soccer in America is highly developed.

I don't know what coverage you've been watching, but everything I've read/seen after the Brazil game suggested it was gonna be a cakewalk to the championship. Especially after Japan knocked off Sweden. Not exactly an "underdog" mentality. Nobody ever paid attention to women's soccer befor 1999, so our first memory as a nation is winning the World Cup. It's like the Summer Olympics. We expect to win, and are surprised when we don't. And then we forget about it for 4 years.

The female football world cup final was better than any mens football world cup final in recent memory.

This X 1,000.
Also I just saw the women's team on The Today Show why you bitches lost it's time for you to go back to obscurity as Ricky Bobby would say your either first or last.
The media tries so hard to get us to care about World Cup Soccer whether it's the men's or women's.
Soccer to Americans is just like the metric system fuck the rest of the world.
Now of course if the women soccer player's don't want to go back to obscurity I suggest they pose nude and not Playboy style either I'm talking Hustler magazine type nude and include that 40 something U.S. Olympic swimmer two I'd like to see her naked if you really want to make me a happy camper they can do it all in full blown lesbian style photos :D

What a typical American dumbass. Soccer doesn't give a shit if you follow or not. ESPN has spent a grand total of TWO summers pimping the WC and it's bugging the shit out of you. Well, get used to it. they are giving soccer this much exposure for a reason. There is a market for it. The media isn't trying so hard to get you to care about it. There are enough fans in this country that get it and they tune in. That's who they're going after.

It cracks me up when someone realizes they are out of a demographic and tries to act like they aren't interested in the first place. ESPN has enough of the same drones that tune in everyday(um, that would be you in this case), they are trying to attract the soccer fans who don't watch ESPN(That's where I enter the picture). I have the NFL Network, Fox Soccer Channel, Fox Soccer Plus, Gol TV . . . why would I ever watch ESPN? I haven't watched an entire sports center in over 7 years now.

ESPN would love to tap into that market. They aren't investing millions of dollars to broadcast the English Premier League at 7 or 9 in the morning on a Saturday so they can turn you into a soccer fan. All they have to do is repeat another World's Strongest Man in that time slot or another one of the weekly world championships of Poker if they wanted the same viewers.

And get used to more since ESPN's first season broadcasting the EPL was the result of another broadcasting company losing it's final year of it's contract and they bid on that one year deal as a trial run. The next season, this one coming up, they doubled their games broadcasted per season. They are also showing most of the World Football Challenge which is essentially a bunch of practice games
