The Denver Broncos have confirmed Tim Tebow will be their starting quarterback after the bye week in a game against the Miami Dolphins.

The Broncos (1-4) say they will have two practices for him this week as the starter going into the bye and will install training camp-like practices to facilitate the change in starting quarterbacks.

The timing of the move is unique. The Broncos play the Dolphins Oct. 23 in Miami, and the Dolphins, who lost Chad Henne for the season with a shoulder injury, had been trying to trade for benched starter Kyle Orton before the start of training camp.

The trade deadline is Oct. 18, but it would seem unlikely the Broncos would trade Orton to Miami and have him potentially start against Tebow.

The game at Sun Life Stadium will be a homecoming of sorts for Tebow. The Dolphins plan to honor the 2009 University of Florida national championship team at halftime.

Tebow ran for a touchdown and threw for another after replacing Orton to start the third quarter Sunday against the San Diego Chargers, and had one final shot for the win before his pass fell incomplete in the end zone on the last play.




Tebow completed four of his 10 passes for 79 yards. He also ran six times for 38 yards.

Tebow's footwork and throwing mechanics remain a work in progress as he tries to morph from a combination college quarterback to a pocket passer in the pros.

In 12 career games, Tebow has completed 45 of 92 passes (48.9 percent) for 733 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions. He also has rushed for 264 yards and seven touchdowns.

Tebow never came close to beating Orton this summer for the starting spot, and even was outplayed by Brady Quinn.

But Broncos fans started calling for him anyway when Orton had a poor performance in Denver's 23-20 loss to Oakland in the Monday night season opener. A group of fans even purchased billboard space in Denver calling for Tebow to take over as the starter.

Tebow started the final three games of the 2010 season, when he went 1-2. Orton has a 12-21 record as the Broncos' starter.

I think Tebow can win some games simply from the intangibles he brings. But he will also lose a lot of games because he lacks the fundamentals needed to be a successful QB in the NFL. Teams will eventually start forcing him to stay in the pocket and make his reads while taking away his short routes and then daring him to make accurate throws down field.

Denver must realize they aren't going to be a competitor this season and will just give Tebow a chance to keep fans interested while seeing what he can do. Maybe they will be so caught up in Tebowmania that they don't notice they are 3-13.

I like the addition of a 3rd game on T-Day. We get the two traditional games plus another one that should usually be a good matchup. Maybe they could flex the schedule and pick which game to slide into that spot in week 3 or 4 ?

Detroit played well last year even though they lost. They gave NE fits for almost 3 quarters. You could see that they were getting ready to turn the corner. I had them winning 10-11 games this year and taking a WC spot. That looks like a lock at this point.

It's way too early to start talking about the draft. I will say that if the opportunity should present itself, drafting luck and having him learn from Manning for 3-4 years is somewhat of a dream scenario for us. With luck's talent and mental abilities, having him learn from the greatest of all time will do wonders for his development. It probably would ensure that we continue to be one of the premiere teams in the league for the next 15-20 years.

Having said, it's way too early to start thinking about that. As far as tanking the season to get a high draft pick, that's not going to happen. Our players have too much pride to lay down. We have many players who aren't even guaranteed to be on the team next year, so why should they care about drafting a QB who could help the team a few years down the road? You can't ask them to do that and it won't happen.

Why? What's the point of throwing him to the wolves with this awful team? Even best case, another big hit could render his careers - both playing football, and possibly walking - over. Why send him out early this year when he's weaker than he'll be in August? To get a few more people to show up at the Stadium when attendance starts falling this season?

I really hope they don't send him out there this year just because he insists on it. I know he's basically the coach but someone who has the authority needs to make the right call this season.

You have the wrong idea. IF Peyton does return, it will only be because he'd be 100% complete with the recovery and rehab process. The doctors would have to clear him to the point where there would be absolutely no risk of re-injury if he returns, at least no more than any other player. Even if he's at 90%, he won't see the field. It would only happen if he's 100% recovered, and has had significant practice time to where he feels good being on the field. If that doesn't happen, he won't play. So there's no need for people to be worrying about him risking injury by returning.

As to the question of why he would return, it's just as Mr. Irsay said yesterday. You always want to win, regardless of where you are in the standings. Maybe you build 3-4 wins at the end of the year and carry that momentum into the off-season and ultimately into the next season. Maybe Peyton coming back for a game or two gives him some much needed confidence that he is where he needs to be to succeed next year. All of those things come into play, which is why Peyton will return if he meets the aforementioned criteria of recovery.

I like the 3rd game but my cable doesn't have NFLN and I'm not really pining for it. IMHO NFLN's in game coverage sucks and I'd rather listen on radio. Usually by that time on Thanksgiving I'm sawing logs because of a turkey overdose.

Do you watch football? You're calling me an idiot, yet apparently you're unaware of the fact that as part of the new collective bargaining agreement, the NFL instituted a new rookie wage scale which eliminates the monster rookie contracts of the past. With the scale, rookie wages are decreased dramatically. Cam Newton, last year's number one pick, signed a 4 year contract worth 22 million. Not bad, but nowhere near what a #1 pick would have made one year prior.

On top of that, Peyton's contract is front-loaded and his cap number for the last three years of his contract are very low. It will be definitely feasible for the Colts to have both players on their roster.

Indy has an out clause on Manning's contract in 2012 that would save them most of the $90 million deal they signed with him. If they don't think he is going to be the same as before his surgeries they will use it. Why do you think they included it in the first place?
